I really think the Giants' momentum is going to carry over to the regular season, and I think they are going to win the East because they don't really lose anybody on either side of the ball. I think the Cowboys are going to barely slip in the playoffs despite the hype and have a chip on their shoulder. I think they respond, and Romo leads the Cowboys to a conference title game (without choking), but even as a Cowboy fan, I don't think they are a championship team yet. I think the Steelers are going to be taking it home this year.

I like your Vikings pick, but I really see Peterson having an off year because of injury or the fact that every team is going to stack the box unless Jackson proves he can throw the ball. I still think their defense is good enough to earn them a wildcard spot. I also think the Jets are going to be a wildcard team. Without Favre, they would just miss the playoffs, but I see him working his magic to earn them a couple more wins.

This is my first time trying one...I have a feeling of total failure (i dont know alot of the lesser-known players, or players at positions like Offensive Lineman...), but its worth a shot :p

WetBeaver, no worries at all man. keep the NFL talk comin!

Insane, The only positions you need to worry about are the skilled offensive positions.

To be specific, your roster will look like the following:
    QB
    RB
    RB
RB/WR (you can put either position here, known as the "flex")
    WR
    WR
    TE
    K
    D/ST (team defense/special teams)

Then you'll have 7 bench spots for backups i believe.

I'll be back with my NFL playoff predictions tonight probably.

Not really. Some players have bad seasons. I'm waiting until at least the third game to see who is doing well

That is what off-season and pre-season are for. Any idiot can predict the Patriots were going to be winning their division 3 games in.

NFC East - Giants: Although the 'Boys won't win the division, they will go deep in the playoffs while the Giants falter similarly to last years playoffs.

NFC West - Cardinals: After an 8-8 season, they will take this division just because how bad it is. The Seahawks could very well win the division again, but they are really aging.

NFC North - Packers: The Packers defense and run game (Grant) is too good for the Packers to not take the division without Favre, and the Bears quarterbacks suck too much.

NFC Sorth - Bucs: If Earnest Graham can put up similar numbers, they will take this weak division.

NFC Wildcard teams - Cowboys, Seahawks

AFC East - Jets: Patriots repeat history by having an off year, and Favre helps an improving Jets team get over the hump.

AFC West - Chargers: Too talented to not take the division, but Raiders surprise some people.

AFC North - Steelers: The Steelers are going to be really good this year.

AFC South - Jaguars: Gerrard picks up where he left off last year, and the human pinball has a monster year.

AFC Wildcard teams - Titans, Patriots

    Superbowl champions: Pittsburgh Steelers

    Great stuff guys...

What about Madden 09? You guys into it? They've got online leagues this year, hint hint...

Lights and other Cowboys fans: What do you think of HBO's Hard Knocks so far? (if you don't know, it's a mini-series about Cowboys training camp)

Ok, and I couldn't let all this best-RB-ever stuff go without chiming in... LT is the best active RB, no doubt, but Barry had a longer career than you may be thinking, and I don't think LT is quite comparable to Barry yet (check the numbers, specifically 1997). Now you can't go through this without mentioning Jim Brown and his career 5+ yards per carry either (12 and 14 game seasons back then make it hard to compare other numbers). All the old guys who ever saw him play always say he was the best, but having never seen him myself, it's hard to assess. Obviously, with Barry being the reason I'm a Lions fan, I'm a little biased in this whole argument.

I am a big Madden fan, and this years game finally lives up to the hype. I have had a blast playing online, but I am not really into dynasty.

I have been watching Hard Knocks, and I have noticed one thing in particular. Martellus Bennett is a punk and has no work ethic whatsoever. He better get his act together, or he is gone and would have been gone had he not been a second rounder. I though he was a tool when he was at TAMU because of the stunt he made on TV (he put on a Texas hat and said I am going to to the University of Texas... A&M and put on TAMU hat), and well, he was an Aggie. I thought the pick was pretty solid since the Cowboys like to run 2 TE sets, and they lost Fasano. I thought he would be able to put his attitude aside like TO, but I am really starting to doubt the pick.

Yeah after that last episode, I found myself saying "he's gone". But then again, you know those guys see the show each week, so he may still get it turned around. And I loved them making fun of T.O. running on the beach. Hilarious.

Let it be known that outside of the clear cut favorites, I don't believe in predictions. Too much can happen during the course of a season. So, while I agree with most of this, I give exception to a few things.

    1. There is no way the Jets win the AFC east. The Pats return an almost identical team with the noted loss of Samuel (scheme player anyways) and the addition of Jerod Mayo and John Lynch. How can anyone pick the hapless Jets? What did they gain that makes them better than the Pats? Faneca is good and should help improve the running game, and they had an ok draft, but that's about it. And Favre....c'mon, he's still decent but he isn't the MVP type player he used to be. They need to flip their record from last year to even sniff a wild card berth, and I just don't see that happening.

    2. The Giants lost way too much and the Cowboys are way too talented on both sides of the ball to have to worry about the G-men even posing a moderate threat. They made a good run last year, and they beat my team so they have my respect, but a playoff hot streak doesn't make and entire next season. The loss of Strahan and other key guys on the defensive side, plus Eli's inconsistant play will help them watch the playoffs from their couches next year.

Other than that I really like the Cards pick. They have a young and improving D and a sick offense, no matter who is throwing the ball. I also agree that Pittsburg will be good this year, especially with the emergence of Santonio Holmes as a reliable homerun threat. Plus if Polumalu is 100% the D will be just fine. Big Ben ain't so bad himself. However, don't discount them Browns......Big time up and comers right there. Real dangerous team.

If I had to pick 2 teams in the Super Bowl as of right now? I'd say Pats (again) vs. 'Boys with a Brady/Romo shootout.

Read it again carefully. I said the Giants would win the division and lose early while the Cowboys make a deep playoffs run as a Wildcard team like the Giants of last year did.

I too do not believe in predictions, but they are fun especially when you nail a cinderella story (Jets, Cardinals anyone?)

When have the Patriots not returned an identical team from the year before? If you think the loss of Samuel isn't going to hurt them, you are mistaken. He was a stud. Plus, the addition of John Lynch really isn't going to do much for an already aging defense. At this point in his career, he is pretty much a poor man's Roy Williams (great hitter/runstopper, lousy in coverage). I agree that Mayo will bring some youth to the D, but unless he has a Willis like year, I don't see him making much of an impact right away. On offense, Brady is only getting older, and I don't think he can put up numbers anywhere close to last year. He will still be solid, but I don't see him performing at as high a level especially now that they are going to be more focused on hard-nosed football this year. Moss is pretty much the same story as Brady, all career year and can only go down from here. When was the last time Moss put together two solid consecutive years anyway? Also, Welkere is a solid player but not as good as the numbers. He put up a year similar to Stokely for the Colts under the shadow of Wayne and Harrison. Defenses will focus on him more this year.

When you take all that into account and the fact that the Patriots have only repeated Super Bowls once throughout their dominance this decade, I see them having a 9 or 10 win season.

As for the Jets, I can't really see them doing better than 9 or 10 wins, but I had to put them ahead of the Pat because quite frankly, I am sick of the Patriots dominance. I still expect the Pats to go much deepers in the playoffs than the Jets, but I think the Jets finally find some consistency (heck, if the Giants can, why can't they?).

How can you say Brett Favre isn't the same pro bowl QB he once was? He had one of the best years of his life and led the 8-8 Packers to a 13-3 season and conference championship game. He is still in prime shape too.

I expect Thomas Jones to have a year that rivals his year that took the Bears to the Super Bowl, and they have the speed complement with Washington. Coles and Cotchery are still solid receivers too, and Baker had his best season last year with 400 yards. The team might be a bit of a stretch as a playoff team, but I don't think a 9 win season is too ridiculous.

As for the Cowboys, I am a fan, but I try not to ride the hype since they haven't done much in terms of playoff success since Emmitt was around. I hope I am proven wrong though, and they blast through the regular season and playoffs. I would rather have them squeek into a Wildcard spot and make a title run then have a great year to be left in dissapointment again.

I really don't understand how can say the defending Super Bowl champs aren't a moderate threat. They lose no one on offense, and Strahan isn't that bad of loss with Tuck and Ominidfhogidhkdhkljdhkljdh (screw it), who had monster postseasons. Although Manning has had an inconsistent career, I wouldn't look too far into some issues in a meaningless preseason game. Like the Patriots, I still think the good guys emerge in the postseason to knock off the defending champs.

I would love to see a Cowboys-Steelers Super Bowl for old times sake (and they are my teams), but I am not going to get too high on the Cowboys' horse until they win a playoff game. I really see Mendenhall having a huge rookie year for the Steelers, and forget Santanio as a deep threat, Limas is going to be making plays from day one. I hope Ben can have a consistent year like his rookie year, but if not, I think Dixon or even Batch would lead the troops just fine.

As a Steelers fan, I am worried about the Browns because they are an up and coming team.

Since I am talking about surprising people, watch out for the Texas Longhorns to have a huge year (especially on D under Muschamp) that sets up the MNC run for 09/10 despite the critics, who have us ranked 3rd in the Big 12 South alone. That might be a testament to how good the Big 12 is, but they do not have high expectations going into the year and are ready to prove some people wrong.

Man, I am ready for football.

    That is all.

Have you guys seen Desean Jackson this preseason? He has been a beast playing with the eagles first stringers. I think he could possibly have a season like Kevin Curtis did last year. Sucks that Curtis is injured, he could have had a great season.

Oh I was born in Rockford Illinoise, but have lived in Wisconsin now for 12 out of my 14 years alive. I usually root for both the teams, but now that the bears are the greenbay packers arch enemies, i root for green bay when they play each other. I'm excited to see how we do without brette farve. He lost about 90 percent of my respect when he said he wanted to come back after months in retirement. Rogers looks pretty good though. He never throws interceptions, but short passes. The opposite of farve.

LOL lightsout some warning would have been fine, but my drafting skills blow anyway so the team I got will probably do better.
