Helm's Deep V2 ((( more pictures at bottom of post ))) Download HERE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Youtube Video The video is NOT a walkthrough, but staged action to promote the map. Everything you see used in the video is a feature in the actual map. The film has a bit of an intro explaining the story, so for those of you who just want to skip right to the action, it starts around 4:00. Credit goes to Cheezy Entertainment for making this film possible. Any questions about Cheezy Entertainment or about future videos can be answered by Cheezbob on bungie.net or over xbox live. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So What's Different? The first version was my first forge and I didn't really know about certain forging techniques until after I had made it. In V2 I have put more time and thought. Heres a list of the changes: - built on an infinite $ canvas - merged and geo merged - accessible sniper tower - more detail - no more laser room - cover for the attackers Why V2? After I had created Helm's Deep V1 people considered me an "expert" forger. Now I would have to disagree with them. I look back at that map and say, "OMG!" The overall structure of the map was sloppy, poorly merged, and hardly had any thought toward gameplay. I have come back now to fix my error with this new and improved version of Helm's Deep. I know for a fact that not only Lord of the Rings fans, but all Halo 3 gamers will enjoy this epic fortress remake. Gametypes Helm's Deep V2 is compatible with ALL gametypes, but I've created six variants made specifically for the map which include my ratings. Details about the variants are in the links. The Uruk-Hai variants: 1. Uruk-Hai (territories)My rating: 5/5 stars 2. Uruk-Hai (slayer)My rating: 4/5 stars 3. Uruk-Hai (CTF)My rating: 4/5 stars 4. Uruk-Hai (Assault)My rating: 3/5 stars The BONUS variants: 1. Berserker My rating: 4/5 stars 2. Theoden (VIP)My rating: 5/5 stars Screenshots - The Attacker's Spawn - Unlike in the previous version, the attackers actually have some cover while storming the fortress. Yes, the "catapult" wraith is still there. You will also notice that the weapons are scattered all about the battlefield instead of lined up against the wall, so you can grab them as you go instead of having to turn around. Oh, some people have asked about the bridges leaning on the wall. These work as ladders. It may take a jump to get onto the ladders, but after that you can climb your way up and meet the enemy in combat. - The Main Wall - The biggest difference between V1 and V2's main walls is the surface. In this version, the containers are upside-down and merged slightly to create smooth walking space. You can also see the debris on the ground in the background. This gives that area a little more purpose, and also houses a new territory. - The Hornburg - This area is a little more compact and has more corners. To the right near the BR there is a ramp that leads to a sniper ledge along the rounded wall (not visible in this shot). And at the back of the shot you see a larger ramp leading down to the "Mess Hall." - The "Mess Hall" - This is sometimes where the fiercest battles take place. This area contains the defender's flag. This is also where the attackers plant the bomb in assault. You will notice the shotgun spawn on the table to the right. Unlike in V1, there is a geo-merged wall that acts as a ramp from the back hallway to the higher ground (in the door to the upper left). - The Lower Area - Nothin' special about this shot, but it does show the entrance to the sniper tower (another feature new to V2). The entrance is the opening on the right with the two arrows pointing up. When you get in there just jump. A gravity lift will carry you to the top where you'll find a sniper rifle. - The Underground Caverns (infested with zombies) - Nothing special here either, but there is a machine gun turret that can act really well against attackers forcing there way toward the last few territories. But be careful, attackers can break through the barriers blocking the rear entrances and ambush you. - The Storage Room - In a territories match, this is generally the last territory to be fought for. Otherwise this room has no purpose whatsoever, except to go boom. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for reading this far. I hope you enjoy the map! Comments here and at Bungie.net are appreciated. ~CheezBall42 p.s. this seems to have been an issue, people think I'm remaking someone else's Helm's Deep. That is INCORRECT. I made the first version. Oh, and I've got a question. How come this thread has over 1,000 views and the map has only about 300 downloads? Please people, if you like it, do it a favor and download it. Download Helm's Deep V2 HERE
Wow... This is truly amazing. Some of the best, smoothest interlocking I've ever seen. 10/10. Great job. But what are the bridges against the wall for?
ok i'm definitely downloading this. no doubt. i unfortunately don't have a whole lot of room on my hard drive right now, so i'm wondering if the gametypes you made are completely neccessary. like, can i jus play this with default assault or ctf or w/e? if not, do yours just have small changes that i could make myself?
This an Excellent Post! And of corse me been from New Zealand, i really like Lord of the Rings, This is the one of the best remakes i've seen. 5/5
wow i used to have v1 but thisis just amazing! so much neater and more movie realistic i would flip thos bridgesunlease your looking for that ladder effect
The bridges serve the purpose of ladders. Oh, and to ThPerfectDrug77, the details about the game variants are very specific in the links. The changes aren't very important for the assault variant, the ctf variant, or the territories variant. The others are each unique and fun in their own ways.
oh perfect. i didn't even look at the links, my bad. thanks dude. i'll jus bookmark the thread and come back later if i need more of the gametypes. i'm excited to try it though. it looks like its rather faithful to the movie
I like the stairs with boxes... I have never seen something like it... Great over all look... and for a castle map it looks pretty balanced...
this looks awesome man i hav to so dl, it looks perfect for asymetric games and maybe even slayer although the attackers could use maybe a bit more firepower but other than that it looks great
I remember my friend showing me v1 of this. This looks really well made and looks great. Never seen the movie but im sure it looks how it is suppose to be.
i remember v1 back in the day, this looks like a good cleaned up version. I love the rounded part with the corner walls, the mess hall is nice and the whole back of the fortress is very nice, also i love the seige laders in the front, great job better then the first. I shall download and play terrotories just as i did on the first one.
i havn't seen that movie so then i wouldn't know how good it is but i think it looks well forged all together
Awesome. I was a real fan of the first version. This one looks even better. I love the interlocking and I love how you implemented some geomerging this time. The arrows that mark the lift are also really cool. It shows that you put a lot of effort into the map down to the last little detail. awesome job. you have my dl
No, not just aesthetics, they're working "ladders". It may take a jump to get onto the "ladder", but after that you can walk right up to meet the enemy in combat.
