Ok, so the Lions are my team, and as much as it pains me to do so, I'd have to disagree with you Insane. I've been pretty optimistic in the recent past, and have been predicting playoffs for a few years now, but this year is different. The collapse from the 6-2 start last year still stings. I've seen lots of articles trying to sugarcoat it and talk about the good things, but this is how I see it:

    1) Transitioning from Martz craziness (awesomeness) to a basic run-focused offense. Adjusting personnel to do so. Translation: Cleaning house. Even defense. exit RB, exit LBs, exit linemen (Shaun Rogers will be missed), bringing in more old guys from Tampa Bay for the Tampa 2, etc.
    2) A lot riding on the rookie RB. With two of the best at WR, and a decent QB (see multiple 4000 yard seasons under Martz), do the most logical thing: transition to a run-based offense using a rookie RB.
    3) A certain QB-not-to-be-named is obviously planning on returning to play for one NFC North team for part of the season, then getting traded to another NFC North team so he can beat the Lions 4 times in one season.

So maybe I exaggerated a bit there... They have some good talent, so you never know, but I think getting rid of Martz sets the Lions way back, putting them into a transition year. But I think they'll have it moving in the right direction before the season's end. They've been drafting a bit better (finally a lineman), but that's a whole different topic that I don't feel like typing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm always optimistic come gametime. But on paper, I'll just say I'm hoping they surprise me all year long.

Personally I am glad that the Lions dropped Rogers; he was so inconsistent. Granted he had some stellar games, but there were too many games where he was invisible out there. Also he couldn't make weight, something you need to lose so you can get around those lineman quickly and get a sack.

Bengals fan here. I have 4,000 or so posts on the official boards for the bengals, so I'd say I'm pretty versed in bengaldom.

Creeping Death, saying "everyone else does it" isn't really a great excuse. If everyone else does, then they weren't stupid enough to get caught. And just cause some team won the Super Bowl after 9/11 does not make them the "feel good story". I had no problem with the pats but now, I dislike them strongly. No room for cheaters in my book.

    1) Maybe I misinterpreted my point. I wasn't trying to use "everyone else does it" as an excuse. My meaning was more along the line of all you other Football fans can stay off your high horse. Many analysts, coaches, and other people close to the game have admitted or acknowledged that the Pats are definitely not the only ones. Or in a nutshell, don't pretend like your team is 100% innocent, because they may not be.

    2) Hmm....A team called the Patriots, dressed in Patriotic colors, mere months after an attack on our soil, waving flags, dedicating the game to all those that were lost, with a player who lost a brother on 9/11, and defeating a heavy favorite with a patchwork D and a young unproven quarterback. Yeah, that ain't a feel good story at all.

Ive hated the Pats for years, with damn good reason too if you follow the AFC. The cheating scandle wasn't what made me hate them (but it sure added another reason). Ive hated them for nearly a decade, and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Feel good stories are just mass-media hyped as the cheating scandle was, so i couldnt care less about the game following 9/11.

Basically Creep, all i heard was blah blah blah im bitter the Giants made our record season worthless. lol jk man, you know im just joshin ya. But just remember, theres like some pretty long streak goin of super bowl losers missing the following year's playoffs. Watch out.

Tom Brady season ending injury voodoovoodoovoodoo spell spell spell!

EDIT: This thread is about the NFL. Please keep talk of different sports elsewhere.

    I am down.

I was part of a tag team when I was a kid with one of my friends.
We were called "The Perverts" and our strategy was to go right for your balls. You just can't defend that.

And yes, I am serious lol.

Ouch, I just got my ass kicked. But I'll be back........

He really appears to have. But Big D is quite the spotlight to play in.. itll be interesting to see how all the glam and all that that comes with being a bigtime Cowboys name will affect him off the field. He very well could turn right back into the scumbag he was. As far as his skills, he's top notch, so no problems there.

I bet you're stoked about Taylor. I know I would be. He's getting old, but he still has the best numbers in several categories for DEs over the past like 5 years. That division is STACKED. definitely gonna be the most competitive division in the NFL this year. I can really see all 4 teams having a real good shot at the playoffs.

    Patriots

Don't overlook the fact that NO other team in NFL history has gone 16-0 in the regular season.. Not to mention that the Patriots set NFL records for:

    * Most wins in the regular season (Team)

    * Single season record for touchdowns (Tom Brady - 50)

    * Single season record for touchdown receptions (Randy Moss - 23)

    * 589 points in 2007, Most points scored by any team in NFL history

    * Patriots broke their own record set in 2004 by winning their last 19 consecutive regular season games

    * Tom Brady connected with Randy Moss for more touchdowns this season than any other quarterback has to any other receiver in any single season, ever. With 23 touchdowns, they shattered the previous high of 18 held by Dan Marino / Mark Clayton and Brett Favre / Sterling Sharpe.

    * The Patriots also set a record for most touchdowns scored in a season with 75, breaking Miami's record of 70

    * Randy Moss became the first receiver in history to get 100 yards in his first 3 games with a new team (oh, and he then got 102 yards receiving in week 4 as well)

    * In the first game of the season, Ellis Hobbs returned the opening kickoff of the second half 108 yards for a touchdown setting the NFL record for longest kickoff return.

    * During the 2007 campaign, 21 different players scored a touchdown for the Patriots, tying the record also held by the 1987 Rams and the 2000 Broncos.

    * Tom Brady had 10 consecutive games where he threw 3 or more touchdowns.

All i have to say, is that the majority of people who like the patriots, just like them because they are the yankees of football. and no one likes those types of teams. The bears will make it most of the way this year. despite that we dont have our defense from the 06 season. All we need is Devin Hester and we are good.

FIRST GAME IS THIS THURSDAY!!! WHOOOO

    WRONG!

The majority of people who like the Patriots are probably from New England, and the Patriots are in no way the Yankees of Football.. Not even close sir..

    The irony is quite hilarious.

I'm glad that I'm only obsessed over a video game and not sports as well. I hear Green Bay got Favre back, so this should get more interesting as it goes along.

That is incredibly untrue. Devin Hester is one person, he is fast and is a great kick returner but a team needs more than that. For one, a quarterback who doesn't suck who can throw Hester the ball when he plays wideout and as you said, the defense is a shadow of what it used to be.

The super bowl this year will be vikings and colts

I don't think Tavaris Jackson is a super bowl QB. Paralyzed, those stats are awful pretty, but I think a 2008 Super Bowl ring is even pretty. The patsies don't have one of those, do they? You seem like the type of person that would rather win fantasy football then have the team you root for win a super bowl. Lame.

Nope, They don't have one.. It's all good though, They got 3 of them already (2001, 2003, 2004).. So it's all good that they didn't get another one last year, There's always this year.

And Al.. How do I seem like the type of person who would rather win at fantasy football than have my team with the super bowl? That's just an ignorant comment, You don't even know me.. So how could you accurately depict the type of person that I am?
