I was wondering what format does everyone use to upload their signatures? I usually use .jpeg at the highest possible resolution, but I can't fit that under the 9.5 kb limit, and if I use .jpeg format the only resolution that fits under is the lowest, which looks terrible. How does everyone keep their sigs looking good but keep the files small?
What are you talking about? There is no sig file size limit, only pixel size (has to be 500 pixels by 200 pixels) Also make it .png much much better then any .jpeg
.PNG all the way. It has high quality and it supports transparency. However, file sizes are higher. If you're using Photoshop and you have a filesize limit, try File > Save for web. You can decrease the quality of your image just enough so that the changes are not visible to the human eye, but they are dramatic as far as the computer is concerned. You can reduce the filesize greatly this way.
A sig I tried to upload was 500 by 180 and it said it was too big, and it says "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 9.8 KB (whichever is smaller)." So does that mean that my sig needs to be underneath both requirements, or just one. Because my new .png 9.5 kb sig won't work either.
You're reading something wrong because it would not be 9.8 KB. That's absolutely absurd for an avatar, let alone a signature.
I know, but I LITERALLY copied it from the User CP. And my sig is now 500 by 89 pixels, 9.5 KB, is super low-res and looks aweful, and still won't work... EDIT: Fixed it up, just put it one photobucket and used it from there instead of uploading it to FH directly from my computer in the User CP.
Yeah, I actually saw that it says that exact thing in the user C/P, so it's definitely a typo. Would you mind posting the high-quality signature you're trying to upload?
Ok, here is the original: But I think the problem was half-way my fault, because if I had just used photobucket in the first place this wouldn't have happened. EDIT: Already put the high-res one into my sig.
