I reckon/hope the next one'll be the riddler.
My brother reckons Catwoman. I also doubt the penguin will be resurrected.

ledger... was the most amazing villian i have ever seen. He sold it and now i am terribly sad he's gone. i never really noticed his existance before this movie. in fact, i think that performance alone might be my favorite performance in the history of movies.

i could not STAND the new rachel, but she was minor. Katie couldve made the role a million times better, whether i like her or not. That lady looked like Katie Holmes had a seizure and her face sagged. furthermore, her acting just said "i dont really care about this character..."

i never really liked Twoface before, but the actor was fantastic, and i really appreciated the "inner demon" path they used with him, similar to Doc Ock in Spiderman 2. I thought he'd be the leadup to the next film, but they pulled it off without feeling too rushed to me.

overall, i cant say i found ANYTHING really to dislike about this movie with the exception of Rachel. The magic trick obviously left me dumbfounded in a good way. the beginning went off without a hitch as well.

"you think you can just walk up in here and rob us and walk out alive?"
    "yes??"

I was expecting the movie to end with harvey as 2-face and the joker dieing, then the sequal would have 2-face as the enemy. I guess they were planning on the joker escaping from prison in the sequel or something, but Ledger died, what a shame.

Except he didn't. When everyone scrambles off to rescue the two, Batman says he's going after...uh...what's-her-name. The whole point is that Joker screwed with him.

I thought everyone knew that. But they didnt elaborate at all that he meant to get Rachael but got Harvey.

I'm starting to lean towards the Mad Hatter, he would have to be REALLY twisted, like the pedophile he apparently is.

Maybe... but as long as he is nothing like the Mad Hatter from the 60s Batman.

I dont think anyone will be able to top off Heath Ledgers Joker in a million years. I swear, the whole movie felt more like it was about the joker, and hardly of Batman. I have reason to believe that part 3 wont be as epic as The Dark Knight cause whoever plays the joker next wont have that awesomeness that heath had. I cant wait for this movie to come out in DVD, ive been watching it in bootleg teh past hour just cause i loved it so much.

I agree with you there. Heath Ledger's perfomance as the Joker was career defining and was nothing short of amazing. I too doubt the next villain will top the Joker but I dont doubt The Next movie cannot be as good.
I just had a thought. The next villain could be Harley Quinn. She could come after Batman as revenge for The Joker.

I hope Mr. Freeze remains a 90s mistake.
Because his character is too farfetched and too colourful(if you know what I mean) for the new style of movies Chris Nolan is going for.

Mr. Freeze is a batman and robin villain, it doesnt suit todays standards of movies. The absolute only way they could use him is if they redo him completely and make him scary.

Mr freeze is a major reason i couldnt stand batman until batman begins. Robin as well. They are just so... hoaky. The dialog was terrible, and they seemed all like glorified versions of the cartoon... I hated that. None of it was plausible, and it wasnt believable.

The new movies however are awesome. Realistic and dark. Lets keep them that way. They could really do well with The Riddler or the MadHatter... BUT none of them will live up to the villian the Joker was in this movie... it cannot be topped. theres no room to go up.

Ok, my turn to join this thread. It was awesome! Can you believe I wasn't even planning on seeing this? I'm a big fan of the original Micheal Keaton Batman with Jack Nicholson as the Joker. But more on that later.

I really love to examine movies, so here's my take on it if you care to read all this:

First, I love the title. It describes Batman in multiple ways, and has similarities to the "night is darkest before the dawn" line in the movie. Harvey Dent is Gotham's White Knight, and Batman is it's Dark Knight. Batman becomes the scapegoat that the city needs. I love the lines at the end: Dent is not the hero that Gotham deserves, but he is the hero they need. Batman is the hero the city deserves, but not the hero they need. Great writing.

The performances in the movie are top notch. And Maggie Gylenhal's acting might not have been great, but I like her too much to have noticed.

I agree. I'm glad the character is still alive for one reason: In the film, they commented that the Joker had destroyed the best of them (Dent). But really, Wayne is better than Dent because both he and Dent lost Rachel. But only Dent was driven to madness and revenge. Wayne still believed Rachel was going to be with him, so in his mind he lost as much as Dent, but Wayne did not let it break him. He endured, and lived up to his code of not killing. Bravo.

As for future movies, I think the Joker is done. But I hope they do more movies.

I did notice the lack of music. Or rather, I noticed not being able to remember any of it. It worked excellently.

Now, does anyone remember the 1989 Batman movie with Michael Keaton? The Joker in that movie was played excellently as well. He was just as crazy, but not nearly as dark or sadistic. One of my favorite lines from that movie is when Batman breaks up the Joker's party with all these gadgets and the Joker exasperates, "where does he get all those wonderful toys?" I think it would have been great if they paid homage to that movie by using that line right after Batman flips the Joker's semi with his motorcycle. The Joker could have climbed out and said it to himself. I wish they had done that.

Also, I was expecting the Joker to fall to his death at the end, because at the end of that film, they fight it out on a rooftop and the Joker falls off laughing. Just like in this movie, but he dies in that one.

Overall, it was a great movie, definitely worth the ticket, and I'll probably buy it on DVD.

EDIT: And oh yeah. Did I mention that it has action, drama, comedy, suspense, and plot twists? What more can you ask for?!? Well, maybe some tasteful nudity.

    Agreed with the Naked-ness.

also, I sorta failed to notice this, was the guy wearing the Scarecrow mask the same guy from Batman Begins, cause Scarecrow also dissapeard at the end of Batman Begins, so he might be making a comeback also next round.

This movie was AMAZING one of my favorite parts was the "magic trick" I know I'm repeating most of you but ledgers performance was perfect. I loved the way the joker changed his story about the smile. Also how he was always laughing and screaming and all that random awesomeness.
