When you say Spawn Areas, you should probably link that to Furious D's guide. Just a thought. Also, most people never put Assault Rifles on their maps. This is usually good in the case of small maps, where there isn't enough room, but on maps bigger, you need to inflate the weapons count without putting too much power weapons.
I believe this should be stickied or something. Fantastic guide, Matty, I agree with it 100%, though I have nothing to contribute since you've seemed to have nailed everything .
im new here, but before i even signed up i read this post, great post and really helped me with my new map thats in the building stage. Really nice job.
Very nice post, this will help many people, including me, in forging. You took every process there is to making a map and explained it very very well. Nice post.
I don't know if this has been said or not, but when I need a newer idea thats never been used before I just try to throw around some objects in forge. Now I believe that geometry is one thing in a map (creativity wise), but you also need to throw in color and make things flow for the eyes. For example I don't like to have a door near any double box, because I believe color wise they just don't flow....grey and green. So, I think something along those lines may help people as well.
This post was a lot of help. Thanks Matty. I have made maps that have been inspired by other maps. I have one that I got the idea from pallet parade which is one of my favorite maps. The idea of looking at others creations is really helpful. Its great when you combine great maps to make a great map.
One thing I have noticed about a lot of these "guide to" posts is that a lot of them say "do this or your map will suck," they are often right, but they are never absolute law (except for good balance and spawn points). Sometimes it is good to break the rules. For instance, in a game of territories, an armory is not going to encourage camping if it is far away from the objective.
Yet another good thread from Matty. This helped me a tad, in the thought process part. I really haven't planned most aspects of my map, I usually just come up with a central idea and start from there. In fact, my latest map (yet to be released) was absolutely no planning, I just started interlocking random double boxes in the middle of foundry. It didn't turn out half bad though. But I really would like to sit down and do some hardcore planning for a change. Hopefully that'll make my future maps more enjoyable. This thread shouldn't be a huge help to a certain percentile of advanced forgers within FH, but it will most definitely help out the newcomers. It's nice to see an online community with dedicated members such as you, Matty. I'd rep you if I could.
the only down fall too this whole post is that most people who are new here only search for competitive masp.. casual maps... aesthetic maps.ect. ... or maybe that was only me ? lol... cuz when i found this post i had about 160 post already and i new the ways of interlocking and such and all those helpful hints that u posted... hope new members see this very helpful post when they first join! Peace! Great work
