Alright FH heres the thing. My girlfriend bought 360 and wants to play xboxlive but she only has a wireless network. So instead of buying the hella expensive usb adapter we were going to try the method where you share the internet connection with a laptop. We've watched tons of videos, read many tutorials meticulously watching to make sure we did every single thing exactly the same.

However when we try to share the connection it gives an error saying that there is already a LAN with the IP address used to automatically set an IP and it can't. We've tried to manually change the IP address of the LAN connection we're trying to share with to what the xbox had when it was originally set to obtain one automatically and also some ip that was suggested by a troubleshooter on xboxlive.com.

We've also tried to bridge the connections, which actually makes it worse because it kills the internet connection on the laptop while its bridged. This would be fine if it got xboxlive to connect, but it doesn't. So FH i am asking pretty much the bulk of the not retarded xboxlive community for suggestions.

    Thanks

The best thing to do would be to set static IPs, this would have its negatives, but I belive that what you are doing could be easily accomplished through this method.

Hmm thanks. Anyone have some sort of guide to explain how to do that? Also someone elsewhere mentioned a crossover cable. Do i need one for the ICS to work? Thanks

I always get this problem. What you have to do is set up a network bridge. To do so drag your mouse over the connection the xbox is sharing and the xbox connection. Then right click and setup a MAC bridge I belive thats what its called.Hopefully this helps

playahatar... your the one that always spams... so don't talk... anyways...

theres a really easy way to do this if you have a mac... you right click on air port then press "open connection" and then your pretty much done every time you turn on your xbox you have to retry the connection though...

lol so it wasnt ok when he was spaming... but when you do it its fine? thats pretty much your defense... take for instance that other day... when you we were talking about boosting in grifball... and you were just bumping posts off everyone... then when i told everyone to stop posting and you were like, "ohhhhh you guys were making my post count go up"

and btw this isnt off topic...

WTF are you talking about I never posted in a grifball thread and even about saying my post count go up.Also I didn't spam here I actaully told him what to do.I spam in off topic because the post count doesn't increase. So there you just drop it.

i use my laptop to connect to XBox live. i just use the ethernet cable that came bundled with my xbox not a crossover cable. I don't use a bridged connection, I just went to my wireless connections properties and enabled sharing for the connection.

OK i think we got it figured out but she's at dinner so i can't test it yet. Anyways. I made her xboxlive account before i gave her the xbox. So i made it at my house. And today when i was trying to set up my wii online i noticed my ip address is the same as the one i was getting on the xbox and fiddling around with on her computer. So i am thinking that when i set it to automatically find an IP it configured it for my router and thats causing the problem.

Wouldn't resetting the factory settings fix this? We are both using d-link wireless routers but they're different models so they'd have different ip addresses i'm assuming. Once again any suggestions would be amazing. And thanks a ton to everyone helping. (And thanks to the arguers for keeping this topic alive and in sight =])

Can you connect it directly to the router? A straight up hard cable is the only way to go. I bought the wireless network adapter and it doesnt work.

I would say get the wireless adapter for the 360 from d-link it is not as expensive as the microsoft one and it works well once programed. If you need help with it please contact me.
