Well I got a little bored and thought I would try make a new ForgeHub banner, the thing up top of the website. So here's an idea I thought of to replace it. Given this was just an idea for fun and is by no means official! Anyone have any other ideas I could try make? Thanks for the ideas guys and here's some more =] Some of them are a bit iffy but yeah, if this does eventually get implemented when a new map is featured I can make a new one for it, perhaps including Nemi's idea would be cool too =] Changed once again taking in Nemi's idea for having the banner be two seperate pieces so you can click the "ForgeHub" area to direct you to the forums and click the image are to direct you to the Featured map =]
its nice but does FH have a watermark? if not i think we should have one tbh i think maybe not that picture mix a few together of FH best of competetive / casual ect the initial design is orgasmic too
Look Ok. What if you did that same style gradient, where the pictures fade, but haave like 3 of them. One map from each of the packs, including the old ones. Last resort, Standoff, and Blackout would be an awesome kind of gradient. And then the forgehub thing is a little too... pixely for me.
I really rather like this! Perhaps have various different banners with the same text and style, but different pictures? Then we have the possibility of having a random banner being chosen on each page refresh, or even just changing it based on a recent featured map. Good stuff, +rep EDIT: It's 'pixely' because you aren't viewing it at full size...
No the pixely font was actually my fault, I used a sharper font style last time I was in photoshop instead of a smooth style.
That is very win. I think the randomized banner picture would be interesting, but if it displayed the most recent Featured map, that would be even better. Nemi Edit: Maybe make it two images, so the half with the Forge Hub stays the same and links to the main forums, while the map image links to the latest Featured map?
This is a big step, i was working on something like this for nitrous a long time ago. but your going to need help saving it more practically for the web. do you have illustrator. I think you can do it in cs3 anyway, but that takes ages to load, so your gonna wanna work on that. Edit: +gradient into images isn't very smooth. I'm not sure if you have the forge hub half and the images are just not long enough or what, maybe something other than a gradient, that will make it load faster anyway.
Well I can save them to a smaller high quality JPG format, makes them about 30-40kbs each loosing the transparency of course.
ya thats the big problem. its so hard balancing quality + speed. i haven't looked at the coding for th emap, but you might just be able to split it. edit: I looked closer and what your going to want to do (especially if you end up making a lot of these) is making a psd of the forge hub half with a white background and the gradient built into the background towards the end of the font, so you can just insert the picture of the map on the layer below it. plus, then the images won't be in different spots.
Nemi's idea? I think that's probably a bit too much work for the banner, especially if wanting random banners to come up with each refresh. I think just have the single banner image linking to that feature or just the forum would be fine. I don't even think there's much point in linking the forum itself as I never do click the banner to do that. But I would like to be able to click the banner to link me to the featured map and it would also be GREAT advertising for the map if that happens.
is it possible you could upload psd and tell me the font, I have an idea for this. If its not too much trouble at least.
Wouldn't it be easier to do, though, if you only have to do the image side? Leave the 'Forge Hub' side the same every time, but the map picture is changed? Besides, I use the banner to get to the forums all the time.
Those look cool, theres a rotating banner script that alot of halo websites use, to display multiple banners. So technically you could use all of them.
