If we're questioning whether or not new members will be able to develop maps with the same level of quality as our senior members for Halo Infinite, I would say yes. The list above confirms that a few new faces were able to do well for themselves in Halo 5 like Ryley, munk07 and WyvernZu.
I see we are running out of good map names after 12 years. guess it was destined to happen eventually.
I think everyone has the potential to forge at the same level, but I don't think everyone has or will develop that ability to forge or create levels at that highest potential. With infinite I hope the edges get closer, but those who want to go above and beyond will always do so and surpass those who do it as a hobby. If we are talking about barring people from entry to contests because of their skill level whether too high or too low, I really don't think this is a good idea. I'd like it if as a community our higher level people would be willing to work with the lower entry people and bolster their skills and not just use this as a place to boast about their achievements. Not saying this is happening now, but that I think it should just be like that
I didn't say you couldn't join each stage and try to show why your ideas are best, just don't get hurt when you're ideas are stomped out by multiple people who do it better. I understand where you're coming from but the whole point of this style is to let loose the reigns and see what happens. I would probably leave maps that rely more heavily on a theme/gimmick for another contest or just a standard post. Let's do something different, even if it is just once to find out if there's any value in adding it into the mix.
I wouldn’t say “significantly outgrowing”. Anyone that practices their craft will grow, and each person will grow at different rates. The differences were always there, it’s just different people now. In H3 it was Nexn, Fritzster, Salot, Kon Artist, etc. In Reach, it was Nexn, Solo, Waldo, ApK, etc. I didn’t forge in H4 or MCC. The only people in the top 10 I knew before H5 is Purely and Behemoth. The next game will bring new prominent members like every game before has. I feel more knowledgeable and capable than I’ve ever been. I’m really happy with everything I’ve released since Keep Up. Shout out to Nexn for still being one of the best LD’s forge has seen and Waldo for his insane growth in such a short span. I hope they’re happy doing whatever they’ve chosen to replace forge with.
Who's to say which level someone would enter their maps? What would I even be considered? Just seems like it wouldn't work. But it's an understandable sentiment.
IDK if anyone still makes maps but here's one in progress, because I was bored and missed forging. This is for any Skyrim fans still in the house.
Thanks, it ofcourse makes perfect sense the differences were always there but I was just curious if the 'gap' if you will, isn't growing wider, or even too wide maybe.
The gap between the most experienced and the least experienced is wider, and will continue to be as the experienced people learn and improve, but those people are the template which allow the less experienced to learn and improve quicker. The more they learn, the more that can be learned from them. I don’t see the gap as an issue. We aren’t competing with each other, we’re competing with ourselves.
No not an issue but maybe some thought should go in how the site or community will improve to really try to benefit from all the knowledge and quality you guys have to offer. I know it's a process and people who are willing to learn will most definetely grow quickly. Infinite will be a stepping stone for a new generation of forgers and some amazing content, but I'm just thinking of new and better ways for ForgeHub to let the OG's spread their design philosophies and really benefit from the experience they have.
He isn't here in the Seattle area any more. He moved down to Tempe Arizona to run a new test group there I believe.
In Halo 3 I was able to sit and forge for 3-5 hours in one sitting, almost daily. Now 10 years later I can’t commit that sort of time to anything after my wife, kids, and other “hobbies”. That’s the difference for me. If I could I would and I’m sure I could get back in the mix to develop some content that can hang with some of these top tier designers here. Having that kind of time back then I was able to look outside the box and be very creative while trying different pieces with different styles and at the same time not building a single part of the map after hours of brainstorming. Now if I sit in forge for an hour and don’t get anything built it’s like I wasted such a crazy amount of time for nothing. I’d rather go record something in my studio in my free time. Even though forge is so much more powerful now and you can do so much more than we could back then I do have the time crunch so it’s a bit overwhelming. When you consider working 6:30am to 5pm, helping wife and kids with homework, sports/extra curricular practices with kids, dinner, sexy time with wife (I had a vasectomy so it’s even more fun now lol!), yard work or handyman things that come with owning a house happening on on weekends, then I can’t blow an hour or 2 on forging. So I like this idea. I can sketch a layout all day when I’m on downtime at work and dedicate a few hours a week to throwing a block out together. Then you guys who do this as more than a hobby and CAN dedicate that time without seeing it as a waste can take it from there. That’s no slight at you guys putting in all this work, I get it. I was there 10 years ago. I obviously have no future in creative design, level design, or Video Games in general like some of you here do. Keep on trucking but this idea could give me a chance to still produce something for the community here.
Diabotical's Closed Beta Weekend 2 was going on the past few days and the first pit of my content was released along side the update, so I can finally share with you guys, Duel map 'Outpost Dunia'. Art was by Promeus, a serious god with level design. All of it is still technically work in progress as it'll receive updates from observing the beta and the tourney that went on this weekend but here are some shots. Edit: And this.
