How much money do you think microsoft would have made if they had made each forge maps pieces into Lego blocks or their own proprietary sets. Before somebody send me pics I mean all forge pieces as they look in forge on each release. I would probably build more maps if I had that.
I was wondering this the other day, how could you improve Longest without fundamentally changing the map? I know it's not the best map but that's kind of why I wonder what a re-imagining would look like. I love what was done to Blood Gulch to liven it up in Halo 2 Anniversary(?) The original gulch kind of got lost on me in recent years.
jn thats funny, i actually was just thinking about this map the other day because of an article chunk shared on his site. I was thinking that the path that takes you along the top of both lanes could be changed to add both more risk and more potential reward... so how it works right now you have to jump from platform to platform to completely cross the lane, 2 outer platforms and one inner platform. I was thinking, make it so that there is two inner platforms, and 1 outer platform so you have to expose yourself longer in order to get the eventual utility out of it. And then allow the inner two platforms to interact with the opposing lane platforms.
That's interesting, it never occurred to me to try that. So far all I've come up with is: altering the shapes of rooms and the hallway to potentially offer a more creative or stealthy approach, lengthening the hallway and adding a couple short throw man cannons for fun, extending the hallway and adding more alcoves and maybe a couple short hallways but to break up the symmetry you would do an upper Hall on one end and a lower Hall on the opposite side of the opposing end. I play for fun not competition so my ideas will typically be directed at entertaining myself over being competitively viable.
I think Narrows already takes that idea of a main single lane and choke point, with two bases one either side. But if it has to be a hall, I'd just include more verticality like air vents and shafts in the floor and ceiling. While still keeping the Long haul structure
Managed to remove 200 objects from the map tonight dropping me back down into the triple digits. I'm going to finish the bounds of the map and start adding in the gameplay objects so I can eventually get some play tests on it!
I might, don't feel like I've developed my 2v2 design ablitites to the level that would make me want to spend time on a new project. I have some old stuff I may submit tho just to have a chance.
You know I'm not a confident 2v2 designer lol I can make em just not as well as BTB or 4v4, only reason I do it is cuz that's the only player count to build for and actually get games lmao. I'm honestly trying to figure out what I even like in 2v2. That's why I keep making slopouts.
