I freaked out for a second and thought that the thread was renamed as "I got fired as a level designer" lol
Hey, congrats! Looking forward to seeing what maps you make. I am new to Forgehubs, but your post made me create an account and I'm looking to start posting myself! I myself am looking into getting into level design and would love to work for 343. I'm graduating with a B.S. in Game Design in the Fall. Were you reached out to or did you apply online in some way? I am looking at making all sorts of maps this summer and getting feedback, as I realize it'd be a great idea to put them out there and in my portfolio. Any tips? Thanks and once again congrats!
I sent out applications to a few studios, I have my own Portfolio of maps that made it into H5 matchmaking. I originally applied through a recruitment agency who said I wasn't what the studio was looking for, despite having literally everything they wanted on my CV and my Portfolio. They wouldn't disclose the studio so I sleuthed around and found out who it was and applied straight to them, explaining the situation. They sent me a teat immediately and I got an interview after the test. After that it was formalities and I was technically hired at that point. So, pro tip? Recruitment agencies are the worst, avoid or go around them when possible. If you make a Portfolio, make sure to show a progression of your designs. 2D drawings (the more proffessional the better), blockout images then final art. https://frasermwakefield.wixsite.com/website Here's my Portfolio. Make sure to teach yourself Unreal Engine level editing and blueprint basics, just navigating the engine and placing objects, getting interactive doors to work etc. YouTube is your friend, use it, so many tutorials.
Awesome, thanks so much for the tips! Who knows, maybe someday I'll come work alongside you! ;D Once again congrats!
Old School brought us together and I wouldn't have it any other way, Fraser. Let us continue to spread the blessed words of Fayvn to the unenlightened. Congrats on the job!
Super late to the party here, but its great to hear someone in the community is moving forward in the industry! Congratulations!
