VOTING RESULTS - SEPTEMBER FIRST PLACE - 9 Votes Flux by @CommanderColson claimed nearly half of the votes in this months Forgers Favorites. Where many Halo 5 maps have gone the route of extreme complexity in their level design, Flux takes the road less traveled. Players are often forced to commit fully to their movement choices. This is especially true when it comes to the primary pickups on the map. Flux also sets itself apart with a depth of atmosphere that totally sucks you in. The piece usage, lighting, and sound leave you no doubt that you're in a mining facility dug into the side of some far flung mountain range. Check out the video CommanderColson put together. It shows the evolution of the map from blockout to finished product. Very cool!! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SECOND PLACE - 5 Votes Alchemy by @LargerFiend is without question one of the most impressive looking maps in the game, combining architectural and natural structures seamlessly and believably. When you add in the fact that it also pushes boundaries in the area of design, you have something exceptionally rare. This map truly is the full package. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SECOND PLACE - 5 Votes Dig em Deep by @Box Knows stretches the limits of Halo level design. It's a mixture of isolated, elevated, walkways, which tower above well protected lower lying areas. Both offer equal access to to the exposed powerup spawns, which will often prove to be the difference between winning and losing. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanks to all who participated this month. Please visit the map threads - Download, Like, Comment, Play, and Review the maps. Forgers Favorites will be back at the beginning of November. Any maps posted since the beginning of May will continue to be eligible, so take some time to check out the work of your fellow forgers, and be prepared to share your favorites.
Thanks guys. I like doing this on my own. Not having it go on the home page, and be directly associated with the site gives me a lot more flexibility. It probably won't ever have the participation level or visibility of Community Favorites, but it has other things going for it. It has the potential to be more meaningful to members that are really invested in the site, since the nominations and votes will come from other people that are as well. Most importantly for me, it allows me to dedicate a small amount of time each month towards recognizing the talent of the community. It's something I care about, and something that I think can be of value to us as a community. It's in our nature to feel better about doing something, and be more likely to want to improve at it, when we receive recognition. Something as simple as a Forgers Favorites concept has the ability to propel the community forward, growing/improving collectively, which naturally means that we'll improve individually also. The state of the forge community right now feels to me to be at the lowest point I can ever remember. There have been times where there were fewer people forging, but even then it seemed that we had a tighter knit community. There was growth happening collectively. I don't feel that now. While there's growth happening, it seems to be happening primarily on an individual basis right now. I know from experience that individual growth can happen free of influence from others, but exponential growth is possible within a community. That's what needs to be rebuilt right now. I don't have the time to be the backbone of that (joining and facilitating party's online, where honest and direct feedback is shared openly). So this is my way of contributing to something that's important to me, and I hope it can have even some small ripple effect that results in something positive for the community. And though I appreciate the recognition for getting this started, from this point forward I'd really prefer that the focus of Forgers Favorites be on the forgers, rather than on me. That's why I'm doing it. The 3 maps featured in this thread are really of tremendous quality. We should be talking about them, commenting on what they've done right, and trying to learn from them.
I plan to participate in voting if you do this again, I was just really busy on some stuff and didn't actually play anything new . I'll vote only on stuff if it has been played at least once. (But DAMN that artwork @LargerFiend )
I'm definitely doing it. I should have the post for October up sometime tonight. Just extremely busy at the moment.
