I'm not opposed to that but a huge critique just lies on the completely abhorrent judging parameters. That, to me, just shows ignorance towards level design. Which makes me think that whoever wrote those rules shouldn't even be judging a contest if readability is a category? And one that's valued more than interaction...whatever that means. It's just messy all over the place.
Remember 2008 when we used to just forge for fun. I member @Shock Theta @Insane54 @Coolant @TrueDarkFusion
I was here for 1 contest in reach, back when I was still in a clan. I hope that says enough about what I was willing to learn back then haha. What about you Mr Mythic?
It's going to be a lot of trial and error from my perspective. I look at our relationship with 343 as a new project, and as such I don't think we're at the point to stress those boundaries just yet. That document that I asked people to look over forever ago was my outside look on how I think halo can be "fixed" as far as community interaction goes. I was honestly surprised by how much of that material was brought up of its own accord when this 'partnership' started up a bit ago. There's only one area really that I still want to address, and that's pretty much what what me and you are discussing now. The hype I feel is probably on par with Goat ACTUALLY releasing a map (not to beat a dead Goat). While it can still improve, I'm very happy with where it's at right now
I've seen it all and I'm still here. This site has had its ups and downs gone through multiple staff members different owners and so fourth. What keeps me here is a community of like minded individuals who come from all walks of life to create something for others to possibly enjoy. That's what it's always been for me the community sure who doesn't love a good competition or love seeing their hard work get recognized every few months but I dont let these things determine what I make in forge I'm here because I genuinely enjoy being here and helping others when they ask. Also yes I'm probably one of the last active Mythic users lol.
Unless 343 literally provided the prize money there's no reason to appeal to default settings and subject ourselves to radar stupidity outside of the "please hire me 343!" mindset half the forgers left here subscribe to.
You got my join date beat by 2 days lol. Everyone, start wagging their join dates around. Let's see who's the oldest member.
Why hasn't Dunco and Xandrith co-forged a map themed after Blighttown yet? It's literally a castle-sewer hybrid!
You mean to tell me you didnt want to get hired by 343. I don't like bringing this up as I'm sure you don't but I'm just saying, you were gonna work for them. Also, I bet, deep down you still want to, if only to improve there stuff. Even if you don't like some of their design decisions, working for them would be an incredible opportunity. For me personally I'm sure it'll never happen but I'm just gonna subject myself to radar stupidity and just make a decent map for this contest and hopefully learn something from it to.
I agree. I still believe this stems from breakdowns in communication, rather than any active intent to appease the powers that be or the masses. My biggest point of perspective comes from the most recent forgtacular contest. My only goal was to have a proper time line to give forgers enough time to make worthwhile maps. Map choices aside, I still think it's a huge step from the gits contest. I didn't have any involvement in either, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
You should tread carefully. I was picked up by them through pure integrity. I never held my thoughts back on their stupid decision making, I always spoke what I believed was the truth of the situation and what could've done better. And I'm continuing to do that literally right now in this thread. Because unlike half the people here, I will never hold back what I believe should be said in like of just appeasing someone above me to earn their favor. I got the pick because I'm a good level designer and I know truths. Not because I made friends with people at the studio. Also worth noting that I never actively saught their approval, their offer came organically. There is a lot more I could say on the situation but I'll refrain. And no, I didn't like 343 nor have I ever. I liked Halo. My passion for Halo outweighed my disdain for the studio so I was willing to work there. That's no longer the case, so no - deep down I don't want to work there. Getting that offer pulled opened up other doors and I'm grateful for it in retrospect. Edit: regardless you completely missed the point. Why people are using default settings is beyond me, seems like a sad attempt at appealing to 343 when I'm sure they don't care.
