I used to visit Waypoint a good long time ago as I found it to be quite an interesting in depth look at human psychology. In short, people who could think for themselves would rationally argue a point and present their reasons intelligently. The people who didn't know what they were talking about would respond to these arguments with a few words, or single sentence, simply regurgitating the most popular uninformed opinions.

It seems people who favor bullshit would prefer realism based lore justifications over competent game design, so have fun with those guys!

It did help me learn to present arguments, particularly when talking to people who don't design maps. I forget sometimes that not everyone is a designer. If you have designed maps for games with and without 'enhanced' mobility, then you just know how it ****s up everything in the context of Halo, but most players will never see it to the extent that a designer does.

The Sprint Thread on Halo Waypoint is a particularly nice place to relax from time to time. It has been known to boggle minds though so watch out!

You wouldn’t happen to be in Newport Beach right now, would you? Your comments over the last day are of particular interest

The timing and content of your statements coincides with the timing and content of some lectures I’ve been attending

Oh that's cool. But no I've just been reacquainting myself with cinematography. Not to boast, but it's my strongest skill and I live for the perfect shot. It just disappoints me how many movies are poorly shot and lifelessly edited.

You write a movie three times: when you first write it, when you film it, and when you edit it. A lot of films start with shitty scripts, shitty photography, and then barely make it through editing; and then there are those films that have decent scripts and decent photography that are ruined by editing (like Rogue One).

Whereas someone like me - not a professional but not an amateur - I write properly the first time, and film properly the first time, and then the editing is already done because I already know what I want. That obviously differs when you have hundreds of people working on something and sometimes switching in and out of roles. But either way, it feels like the charm and skill of tasteful visual storytelling is evaporating from modern films and it's disappointing.

And of course I feel the same way about games. I just can't get into lazy creations anymore. I need substance and I need artistry. I mean anyone who has Forged with me knows I've thrown out designs that didn't have the right aspect ratio and it has almost nothing to do with the layout. I just need that cinematic feeling. Something about perfect framing + scoring makes everything more memorable - and therefore timeless - to me. I honestly forget everything else.

Why tf do I remember the name Caustic Causeway? Did someone make a map with that name? Sounds like an interesting BTB map with an acid factory theme. I'm gonna make something like that now.

if critics say the third act/plot twists suck or it drags on, i generally stay away from it. don't care about scores unless it's dipping into the 20s and 10s...
