So those pictures I posted are basically just something I made in a day. The entire theme is a rainy blue/green jungle with dilapidated structures, light blue moonlight, white candlelight, and orange torch light. I'm going to restart because the atmosphere I have so far is promising, but the layout is just okay which is probably worse than being a complete failure lmao Just think darkroot garden, and if you don't know what that is, then run yourself over
i don't think so. when i mention budget problems i'm referring to the art i intend to do, not the junk i have on the slop file. like this redesign has so many pieces in structural areas. i don't even think i'll be able to build half of it in this game.
After seeing that map, I think you could finish it. Yes, you would have to compromise a certain level of detail, but isn't that what forge is? If you're not willing to work around the budget, then why forge at all lol Even if the limitations are arbitrary and stupid... everyone builds within the same limitations. You can't escape it, so you can either roll with it or just stay in a loop of starting a map, running out of objects, and then starting a new one lol One thing I always found fascinating was that a lot of forgers have naturally learned to work within the limits of forge without any planning. For example, if a map is 50% done and the forger is experienced, he's likely used about half his budget. It's not voluntary at all and I noticed it while building yesterday anyways, finish ur damn map
I didn't run out of objects yet. I said I didn't like the design, so I made some more adjustments. And I don't believe in compromising to make the map playable in Halol 5. If it is finished and I don't have pieces for invis barriers, there's always the trailer. But once the design makes sense and the art works, then it's going to look the way I want it to. Environment art is fun; playing Halo is not. I'm only doing this because I'm bored and I don't have a PC that can run Unreal.
What's the point? The map needs to look and feel like the map should, and starting with a clean blockout slows that process down. Magnets don't work half the time, and when I'm finally done measuring everything I have 500 ugly blocks z fighting each other. I would rather throw stuff down, play that version if necessary (honestly playing sloppy **** is endearing to me) and then take the time to clean it up later. My problem is not my technique. I just don't see what the map should be and end up wasting time building things that aren't it. And if I run out of pieces then oh well. Onto the next one. I'm glad I kept moving on to new maps instead of sticking with one that wasn't going to work. Fortunately I can see the art on this map and I'm excited about the composition. But I'm posting too much about this now.

@Goat I like spirals Have you looked into the philosophical underpinnings of French and English 15th thru 18th century gardening? perhaps it might inform your design process a little bit with regards to the ‘natural’ vs ‘symmetry’ stuff

They are very lush like that and relate directly to libertine sensibilities and the view of Man’s nature as something that ought not to be controlled, that must by necessity overgrow into ‘sublime beauty’ according to the geometric and mathematical ‘machinery’ of his being. @xzamplez this relates to you too with your very orderly and geometric maps Is anyone thinking about this stuff or am I just out of my ****ing mind on caffeine

i don't think i'm going to make this playable. it's not possible to downscale it to the approriate ranges in this game. i almost forgot how hard it was to forge circular objects. edit: i might have figured it out by doing the awful c word
