With the recent closure of the Season 3 Halo World Championships, 343i decided to make some changes to their next upcoming season with the addition of forge map(s*); that was announced late yesterday evening. Here's the link to that article. In addition to that, I'm going to link this article to each of the maps that are in consideration for the next season to their map post so that proper feedback can be provided to their creators.

Below are a few items related to the forge maps in that article:

Here’s a look at the changes that will be made for next season:
    • New Forge map(s) - Even just adding one Forge map will have a big impact on the competitive rotation for the HCS. Like with Oddball, all players will have to learn the map(s) which puts all competitors at the same level, and it should also provide viewers with some fresh gameplay to watch unfold. Our goal is to incorporate at least one Forge map to support Slayer and an objective mode. Keep reading down below for additional information on how we’re selecting the Forge map(s).

One of the things we’re most excited about implementing is Forge maps. We’ve curated a list of competitive Forge maps for testing with the following criteria:

    • Map must perform at a stable framerate
    • Map size must support 4v4 gameplay
    • Map must support Slayer and an objective mode (CTF, Strongholds, or Oddball)
    • Measures to improve “look” of the map must be taken for a quality viewing experience (without sacrificing gameplay and framerate)

Starting Monday, May 7, we’ll be testing these publicly to streamline the list down to the very best one or two maps that will be included in the upcoming season. This is also where pros and competitive players alike can join in and provide feedback on these maps. Once those map(s) have been found, we’ll be doing more public testing to fine tune by tweaking geometry, adjusting weapon placement, adjusting spawns and more.

    FORGING AHEAD
Overall, here’s a look at the timeline for when Forge maps will be tested and tuned, and when competitors can expect settings to lock for the upcoming season:

    • May 11: List of Forge maps whittled down to very best one (or two)
    • May 14: Fine tuning begins
    • June 1: Forge map(s) locked as well as maps that will be used for Oddball
    • June 8: Settings lock for the season
Note that during this time period, public testing will be taking place multiple times each week. The HCS playlist within Halo 5 and the Official HCS fileshare will also be updated to allow players to try out the new settings at any time.

By the way... 4v4 CTF on Karby's map Majestic would be some of the most hectic flag you will ever see!

They’re really not. They’re forge maps that can be edited in any way shape or form. Also any map made by anyone will have spots that pros abuse to get an advantage over the other team. Lastly most of these maps are very functional and would be good for competitive play.

How does Forgehub host contests for aesthetic racing of all things but not for creating a high level HCS map?

You wouldn't even need a prize, getting your own map into HCS in itself is a huge honor.

      Edit-

If I were you guys I would talk to 343 about pushing this stuff back and doing a contest setup to create fresh maps from the ground up for HCS, if you guys are going to do this, you should do it right.

Not only would this make the game look better to those watching, but it will result in a better experience for everyone.

No **** any map could be edited, what a stupid thing to say. Might as well choose a blank canvas because we can make it anything we want .

If you're actually trying to tell me that pretty much every map will be broken....what are you even asking for at this point lmao. There is such a thing as a good map and a bad map. A good map won't break .

In conclusion, you shouldn't talk anymore .

In my opinion these maps are old and outdated and have too many problems to play in a serious setting.

Fissure and Sentinel are too flat and sprawled out. Sentinel in particular has outstanding issues with sightlines and spawns that weren't addressed when it was being tested.

Furnace and Data Center are both very 1 dimensional donut maps.

Echelon has some minor but apparent 1-sided balance issues.

Russet's bases are really generic and the map lacks depth.

Vestige looks dooooooog compared to the original version of the map. I'm not sure what all changed, but I'd rather have seen the original with layout changes than this new one. Last time I looked at Vestige it seemed to have lost the charm and scaling of the original

There are a handful of solid 4v4 maps in this game that were already rigorously tested, and I'm not sure why we're pushing the ones that are not on that list.

But if there is a demand for 4v4 maps, holla at me and I can throw something together. I have like 5 unfinished designs that I never put time into because 4v4 just wasn't fun in this game. But in my honest opinion I think they'd be more approachable for HCS than these maps by virtue of being recent designs built specifically with that playerbase in mind.

Ok I'm not kidding, if you guys want Seatown i will spend a day making it not **** real fast

Your map is pretty solid, but I'd recommend thinking real hard about your changes. I got a shot of reality testing Twice Forsaken after it had been cleaned up a bit from Nokyard, and it played nothing like I remember from before. It was abysmal, and wouldn't sit well at all with high level players the way it is now.

You've come a long way, I've got confidence that your decisions will only make the map look and play better.

      EDIT: lol Nevermind https://twitter.com/StrongSide/status/994706678091169792

As if seatown was ever a well established map, lol. I just know I can make something better out of it in a day than these goons

Making a map hold up at a high level isn't that hard, especially when we're talking about a near symmetrical map. It's just that the maps that have been chosen won't.

Edit: I can hear the death rattle of the halo franchise. We might as well speed things along with these maps lmao

No one was recommending TF TS, Oddball is probably your best bet. Regardless it'd be better than whatever these other **** maps are

For slayer, it's simply 1 sided like goat said. There is also Bad weapons like the brute plasma rifle with 100% ammo. I actualy think it makes a decent strongholds map though, if that's all it plays

seems they liked russet and fissure. Not surprising. One looks like guardian in it's screenshot and the other is a symm from what I can tell.

I've bitched about this many times but... why is it almost always the case that when forge maps are being looking for, the process gets treated like a top secret operation? Nobody benefits from a lack of transparency! Seems to me that one way of going about getting quality HCS maps would be to let the forge community know, well in advance, what you are looking for.

As ExtraSpicyMemes pointed out, if you were to inform the community and announce the need for HCS maps, it would breed some competition and probably a larger pool of specifically built, higher quality maps.

Also, Twice Forsaken played great Strongholds from what I remember, good times!
Full Metal was fun too. Can't say I played many other 4v4 maps, forgot it was a legitimate player count to be honest! (1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 all the way!)

its really not one sided and there is no brute on the map. also it would probably be used for SHs or Oddball

LMFAOOOO well you were acting like the maps wouldnt be able to be changed and a forge map is made off a blank canvas fym, im not saying theyll be broken just that theyll be abused not "fall apart", and lastly why should i stop talking just because you misunderstood.

It just makes more sense to work off a map that already plays better than spending time completely reworking a broken map
