Cold, cold heart Hard done by you Some things look better, baby Just passing through And it's no sacrifice Just a simple word It's two hearts living In two separate worlds But it's no sacrifice No sacrifice It's no sacrifice at all
No seriously, they should've prevented all this right? All that hard work and a big community hype for nothing.
I don't blame them honestly. Seeing as there was 7k people playing at one point on the worlds buggiest servers and on a monday morning. Not to mention that there are only like 3 mediocre maps to play. Imagine the potential success of eldewrito with good ass maps and perfect servers. That **** would make actual Halo obsolete. Especially because it's free. I doubt halo 5 even has 7k people playing, probably not even 5k
Btw neither a DMCA or a C&D has been put out. El Dewrito as a mod is legal, but the links to the base Halo Online MS23 build have been revoked. Development on future updates has been put on hold until further action is announced/agreed upon. 0.6 is here to stay, however.
yeah that's the promising angl eof this actually (tries to remain calm even though I am very disappointed)... they could work together to make this 100% the game we/they want it to be, and with more resources, could put it out really fast I'd say. At the very least they understand that a classic Halo for PC is a must have and very very soon.
Hey now! 343 stated, there's still a chance for the El Dewrito team to work for Microsoft and officially release Halo Online!! . . . . . . . . Yeah, no.
FYI re hitscan... I read on the eldewrito discord last night that (paraphrasing) "We have hitscan because we do not have lag compensation". So it sounds like there's a missing element of netcode that would be required if they were to try projectile for rifles. Not sure if that's B.S. or not...
Its B.S. The rocket launcher and plasma rifle are inherently projectile guns and will always be projectile guns. You can see the shots moving through the air. Regardless, projectile does use more packets of data but it's very few more, very little difference. My guess is they either just wanted the game to immediately feel good to pick up for anyone and opted to stay with hitscan, or more likely - the Halo Online basis they were working off of was already using hitscan for practically everything and they didn't want to test projectile speed individually for every weapon to change that.
They tested it, and people with less than stellar connections could barely even compete. Not to mention Rockets still lag through the air, so...
They should have let the team off the hook. The community loves it. Everyone loves it. No PC version of Halo is coming anytime soon. This game is not being profited off by its creators in any way. Why not just let the team have a license to the Halo IP? They worked harder on this game than the actual dev team at 343 works on their projects.
I meant if they saw this coming at 343 they should've let them know they could be working there ass off for nothing. But I don't know jack **** about modding or developing so maybe it's very little effort I dunno...
Eldewrito guys broke the rules, using Microsoft's IP assets, how was this not expected? Fanfic Installation 01 is different from re-releasing an officially liscenced game that was shelved. Think Twilight Saga and 50 Shades - same deal. They brought it upon themselves, both the ED guys and 343/Microsoft. Mostly Microsoft though - they couldn't make good use of their IP and, though they are within their rights to lay claim to DMCA, they are forever embarrassed. Tragic that it had to be such a fun game though - even running at 640x400 on a basement level laptop, it's a great time..
See I have a hard time buying that because there's so many other examples of working projectile weaponry in Halo Online, including the two I just mentioned. Unless they SERIOUSLY ****ed something up in the code it shouldn't affect the networking in a noticeable way, especially considering in the Halo engine making something switch from projectile to hitscan is literally as simple as cranking up the projectile speed to a ludicrous number. That is unless the engine has changed technologies more recently and Im not aware of it.
