343 got a new lead designer a while back and a small team at 343 showed some promising revisions to MCC. I don't exactly have a lot of hope myself, but I at least want to be a bit excited when something actually nice is shown. Acting even a little hopeful of 343 is a crime here. You can't say a damn nice thing without people writing a damn essay about how 343 is Hitler.
Imagine being such a laughingstock of a "company" that the only universally liked thing you have ever successfully released was a batch of modded gametypes for a game that you didn't even make. EDIT: This happened 6 years ago btw.
343 is very comparable to hitler, you're very dumb for ever even THINKING they could do ANYTHING good for the halo FRANCHISE!!! 343 has never made anything that hasn't caused massive DISAPPOINTMENT, the only game creator in the world that can do anything remotely considered good is bungie, thats why Destiny 2 is one of the best games ever released.
Well, I don't know what I find more funny: -The circlejerking that 343 could never possibly do anything good (Almost like Tom French didn't give us an amazing forge) -trying to compare 343 to hitler unironically -Or the one whos doing the circlejerking obviously didn't learn his lesson about curbing his ridiculous ego after being rejected last minute by the company he's complaining about Also Beautiful, truly peak intellect, impressive criticism that only our lord Goat himself could possibly grant on us mortals.
Game development is hard. Game design is not. 343 chose to design Spartan Abilities, and their artists chose to change the original art, and their level designers chose to make generic arena maps, and their writers chose to make a forgettable story, and here we are. Halo is hanging by a thread only because of the errant fans holding onto false hopes. The point of criticism has passed. There is too much current and upcoming competition to waste time on a franchise run by developers that have no idea what they're doing, and they recently reaffirmed this when they audaciously announced they were considering a nerf to the pistol.
Destiny 2 "Intellectuals", week 1: "This game is too slow, they need to speed it up" Fanboys, week 1: "Stop complaining and adapt, this is a different game, don't like it don't play it" Intellectuals: "Okay" *stops playing* Fanboys, 3 months later: "For some reason this game isn't as fun as Destiny 1, yet here I am still playing it and waiting for the developers to do something." Bungie, 6 months later: "We're speeding the game up!" Fanboys: "It's still not fast enough!" Game design is not hard.
I don't regret a single thing I've ever said about 343, if anything I've been too soft. And truthfully that position being rescinded is leading me to something much greater than Halo could ever hope to be. And for the record, you have no idea what actually happened behind the scenes to cause that dilemma.
Keyword there - that HE'S not happy with. Goats unfinished work is of higher quality than just about every other finished project posted on this site. I could count on one hand the number of forgers that have put out even an unfinished portfolio anywhere close to his.
I know. I'm just saying, game design is really not that easy. Everyone is always gonna find a reason to dislike how you've designed something, you know that as well as anyone.
No, it really is that easy. Choose the right principles, enforce them creatively. Never compromise them. And use common sense. Unfortunately developers have their noses so far up their asses they can't recognize basic problems. Ie: 5 minutes into my first Halo 5 match ever and I realized for the first time in the franchise, double meleeing is faster than melee/shoot. Like how the **** did that get through the first test game ever.
