Ascend Hyperion submitted a new map:

Caliber Beach - It's sights like this that make you forget the sand in your boots.

Honestly playing this map I would expect more from Ascend.

The map uses 660/1600 pieces and the track in some areas (the beggining bend) can be so rough it catches a tire and may knock you off.

There is also a turn where there is a rock right in the middle of the path with no visual cue of any sort so you are basically guaranteed to run into.

With the budget left this map has a lot of pottential, I am impressed you managed a whole good looking island with only 660 pieces, but it needs more IMO, the track needs to be smoothed out in some areas and I think using the rest of the budget to add some more aesthetics or even buildings would be really nice, maybe even a cool mayan temple or something.

With how much space the map takes and with the giant rock in the middle, you could basically utilize nearly all your budget and have no frame issues too.

Considering you make forge tutorials and know what you are doing I was honestly kind of expecting more from the map and was kind of dissapointed.

    Suggestions

-Smooth out the track, it is mostly fine but there are a few sections that can catch you and screw you (in a bad way).

-Push the rock obstacle (right when the track transitions to terrain) in the middle of the track back so people can see it coming and prepare for it, it is so sudden no one can possibly see it coming.

    -Use the budget!

"Honestly playing this map I would expect more from Ascend."

    I agree.

At the current piece count, Im at ~98% on the physics budget. I could break it, which I considered doing, but then I'd have to deal with working around potential issues there. The lightmap is also on the higher side (already above 100) since bake is turned on for most pieces on the map. Needed that consistent shading/helping hand to performance. High lightmap+broken physics = glitch city.

I ran out of time for the contest to really dive into work arounds for those issues so i just decided to play it safe. Maybe in the future I'll revisit the island.

TLDR: Honestly playing this map I would expect more from Ascend.

What in the world drove your physics budget to 98%?

Hah 98%! That's nothing. The physics budget on mine is at about 180% I think. And as Ascend says. That causes problems...

At least it isn't 180% lighting. The judges would have seizures.
