What do you plan to do in Forge in 2018? Perhaps it's something you've put on the back-burner that you intend to finish, or some crazy project you never started. What do you hope you'll be able to do but probably won't cuz resolutions are for failing at? (I'm seriuos, but this will probably turn into another joking thread, which is okay too)
I have like 20 ideas. Well aesthetic ideas. I'm not planning to make something playable but who knows. But I will forge again in 2018.
Actually start and finish maps instead of ignoring them for weeks only to start a new map and repeat the cycle.
To make a map so insanely good it's not even subjective. Everyone just knows it's good. (Ha, like that'll ever happen!)
i dont want to work on anything in 2018, h5 is dead but i know myself well enough that i wont actually quit
I have to redo a map because scripts are permantinly broken on it. I am just going to finish the rest of my projects and have a day where I host every single map Pug and I have made. After that I probrobly wont want to use forge for anything more than just random aesthetic stuff or really simple non-scripted Halo 4 like customs. I am just tired of dealing with how unreliable the game is, everything from lighting to pieces shifting just drives me insane. you can do everything right from a users persective and the game just has an annuerism. Even if you can do something, it just isnt up to standards or it feels like the Walmart brand version of something because of lack of gamemodes/features. I mean i am sure they didnt build forge thinking we would do the things we do, so I can kind of understand why so many things are not the most reliable or built with certain ideas in mind. Especially considering how forge maps were before H5, but I think I am just going to wait until Halo 6 to build soon. It's just too frustrating dealing with it in its current state. I am just accepting the current issues are not ever going to get fixed/improved this late. I like that I found something that I can actually build what I see in my head and it kind of comes out similar, I havent been able to do that with anything else.
I hear ya! One thing I've found is that forging on PC allows you to avoid some of that piece shifting stuff. It allows you to manully type in coordinates and when you get them right and then never move the piece grouped with other pieces, it wil lsay at those exact coordinates. What sucks though, is to get this you must select each piece individually and zero out the decimals or round to the value you were wanting. And... I am still curious about your broken scripting and whether it is truly unreliable because the game or if there is something you could change that would make it more reliable. Feel free to run any problems by me and I can at least give you some things to try.
Nothing hopefully, i feel like it's a waste of my time with such a dwindling player base. Add that with the low demand for key maps, and that's the only thing i'd be interested in forging anyways H6 forge though, i'll be making a comeback
People still won't like key maps when it comes to halo 6 though... (Honestly, I think they could become pretty popular but I'll always prefer modes like Extermination personally)
My resolution for design in general will be to develop some sort of system that allows me to translate the ideas in my head into tangible concepts on a quicker timetable and in a cleaner format, allowing me to open it up to feedback sooner. Selecting a starting point has been an ongoing challenge for my designs - or if i have a starting point, i'll have difficulty selecting the ideas necessary to make the most out of the concept. There is obviously the natural iterative process that takes both time invested in nurturing those ideas, and time away to reflect on them, and I can maneuver my way through that stage for the most part. It's just that foundation I ought to pay more attention to. I tend to the enjoy the polish phase more than anything though, which is why I keep hitting my head against this block.
Stop arbitrarily deciding every one of my maps are trash and deleting all of them, then phasing into the ether where I idly poke at random canvases, and just throw some blocks on a map and see what works.
Great responses so far! My list of "to do"s for 2018: Finish Star Trek map (huge) Finish 1-site extraction (med) Adapt for 2-site extraction (med) refine Eternity Ball - A shield drain item (med) tweak Flare equipment item (small) work on @purely fat 's map (med?) pipe dreams... REDACTED - now codenamed "Brother Bear" (wip) REACTED - Codenamed "Papa Smurf" (WIP) make a good map of my own that isn't just a map built around a scripted gadget of some kind.
It is still in the works don't worry. I just have quite a few projects I work on at one time. I am almost to the point where I am going to be going back to it.
