I remember watching you guys play Deck A-25 live and laughing at myself for not predicting the power of that high platform. I figured it was limited enough to deter long time squats but the inverse was almost true. Just enough squatting room to win a whole match.

TBH, I wasnt too happy with either of my entries but this is the first contest I actually participated in so it was cool to throw my name in the hat.

Yeah 1v1s are a totally different beast, especially in H5. Takes a totally different design style, its not surprising that just about everyone wasn't happy with their entries.

Remember mixer recaps only last 2 weeks guys. I don't care enough to save it and upload it so if anyone wants to take that upon themselves feel free.

I wanted to drop some long winded feedback on the winners and some others but im getting weird with life right now so i cant find enough time. Anyways, Congratulations to the winners and especially @xdemption because his map fully deserves bragging rights. Now to be somewhat of an ass (since im no longer a judge and havent thrown shade in awhile)... if aesthetics werent a primary category for the rubric the top 15 would be totally different. Also at least six or seven of the top 15 just sucked, were broken AF or very boring. I actually hate playing one of the top five and dont intend to ever play three of them again. This competition pretty much came down to whats not broken. I wish it came down to whats not boring though. Regardless Im still confident with what we chose as the top 5 under the judging parameters. Anyways... heres a handful of my own honorable mentions:

@Chronmeister 's Hive is potentially the best map submitted in the competition. If youre playing honorably and aggressively this map offers a ton of complexity all around; spawning, sight-lines, encounters, etc. Unfortunately the top bunker was poorly thought out and the whole map suffered from it in a win at all costs environment. I couldnt even get the other judges to see value in this map because they tunnel vision play like noobs. My dubs buddy and I have 1v1'd on this over a hundred times and this map is a constant in my personal 1v1 playlist. Every game plays out totally different. I still have a full hard-on for this map.

@MULLERTJE 's Whitechapel was a dumb fun and fast paced map that offered something that no other map offered which was the ability to utilize and swap up multiple spawn traps. Usually maps had one bad spawn trap but since this map has 4+ it actually worked in its favor. You knew youd be screwed off every spawn but you never knew which one. Ive had multiple games where someones down by 10+ and still ends up winning. This map is a dice role and hard to take seriously but man its a lot of fun. Drink and play this map. Its definitely in my 1v1 playlist.

@spartan blood 1 's Witness deserves some attention. Its easy to write off quickly but then you start to play it more and you begin to find little things everywhere that causes the map to evolve and little secrets reveal themselves. It has some really cool scenarios that play out aswell. Unfortunately although its not too bad of a spawn trap there is one spawn thats almost constantly used and it gets old very quickly. I still play it doe.

@Ascend Hyperion 's Deck A-25 was also a lot of dumb fun and fast paced pistol goodness but playing honorably is hard once you know the spawn trap near AR and its other issues. The map is so small it becomes hard not to utilize the problems with this map. Its a good warmup and its fun to thrown in to change things up.

I still believe it's a shame guys like Goat, Purely, Salty and Xandrith didn't participate in the 1v1 contest. Would've made it twice as exciting imo.

Just started forging in H5 about a month ago (did some minor stuff in H4 very briefly), and haven't done much else. Mainly CTF/objective type maps so far. There's some really impressive stuff out there, so I came here for feedback and potential forge partners and to hopefully understand some of the quirks and limitations of the medium a bit better. This is my fifth-ish map, a copy of Skyrail from Nightfire.

    https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/...resMyHog_3854a058-2cc6-40b9-bdb1-93e3e758c281

I have no real experience with scripting, though I have a basic understanding after watching numerous videos and tutorials; most of the maps I have made so far had no need for it, though without the functioning gondolas, this one is definitely lacking something. Apparently scripting groups is a huge pain unless I am doing something wrong as they seem to break apart often even with local movement off. Scripting help would be great, though I don't want to be that guy that shows up immediately being like "PLZ HLP" as I am overall happy with it. Budget got close from all the custom pieces/roof filler etc from trying to get the ratios closer to the original. Could have saved a lot of pieces by compromising on ratios (45 degree roofs and whatnot) and wall length/height but as it is now, it has a very similar feeling to the original. Full of errors but that's art. Hopefully I didn't break any major posting guidelines, this is my first post.

edit: added a few more screenshots.

Moving gandolas... use this tutorial and ask me questions when you get stuck or whatever. There is a portion that talks about grouping objects...

I haven't checked out your map yet but the screenshot doesn't look great. But anyway, welcome to the team. I checked your files and from the screenshot that "legion" map looks great so you definitely have potential. Make sure to check out as many sources as you can for all the useful tips and tricks for forging as it sounds like your doing already. Also 5ish maps in the first month sounds a bit excessive. I know I forged like that at first but it's better to take your time and make sure your maps are polished. So many people rush out maps so don't be one of them. Also, check out all the testing lobbies here. They're very useful if you want feedback for all your maps.

You could've just been a judge.
    Why weren't you a judge again? ;)
