Didn't they implement the 2015 Net Neutrality regulations because in the past 10 years Comcast and AT&T were throttling users, putting arbitrary caps on data, billing people hidden fees and used their position to give their own services an advantage?

Also, they're not just getting rid of the 2015 laws, but also ones that have been in place since at least 1970 including laws from 2005 that disallow blocking and throttling of internet applications.

I have a cap on my data right now... 1 tb per month. If they try to lower that they will lose me as a customer and I wil ltake my money elsewhere even if it is slower.

Cap on data? I've never heard of that.

I find it strange that the fans are in the area with the least insulation. My feedback.

most people don't know that they rae being capped. (EDIT: because they usually don't hit the limit, and I have only come close once. (netflix running probably 5-8 hrs a day)

Canada is probably the worst (from people i've known online) but in the U.S. Comcast is saying you can only use 1 tb/mo before being chraged extra... it's a real thing they've explained to me on the phone before.

EDIT 2: and... I pay for a 25mb/s plan, but I get 30... they err on the side of makin gyou happy.

They are not going to suddenly change that approach... they know what will happen.

Sorry, I forgot to mention these were undisclosed data caps which AT&T had from 2011 through 2014.
Also, switching provider isn't always an option. In a 2015 FCC report it was shown that 25% of people don't have more than 2 providers available with at least 3Mbps internet speed. At 10Mbps this numbers rises to 36%.

@MULLERTJE We have mobile data caps, though. :(

All hail Google. May its ever growing arms reacheth all cities whom may receive their loving embrace, and gigabit speed. Let us usher in an era of speed, of simplicity, and great mobile operating systems! For thy end is near! And thy hearts hardened towards their AI learning and well rounded app suit. Long livith Gmail!

    Huzzah!

the best argument I've heard for removing these regs is that they do not exist for mobile providers, and over the past decade those plans keep offereng more and more... Now these companies can do the same... if you accept the slower speed of dsl to avoid the cable company, you pay a price of lower speed, but you are exercising your right to vote with your dollars (or euros or whatever)

Also, you can voice your concerns with your providers. You are their customer. Individually, when you deal with them it may seem like they don't care about you all that much, but a little collective feedback would certainly change policies you don't like.

As I said about aviability o fchoices before, you do have to accept the consequences of your boycotts in a free market. Sometimes, you have to go without something (for a little while)

They'll oppose it because taxes in America are largely wasted. 1 point for generalizing goes to Ace.

I would not oppose a local tax like that. Also, the caricature that the media makes of both the right and left is making for some very silly debates.

data capabilities keep rising and rising... (speed, bandwidth, storage, computing power etc.) so why are we worrying about this at all? In a year you will have faster everything than this year. Same for the next, and next and next. That is not going to go backwards. Promise you.

and with that, i'm going to say that I've said my piece on this...

    peace...

Like we were talking about in the shoutbox the other day about Michigan. It seems like more an more fiber companies are realizing it is worth the investment to undercut comcast here because they don't offer fiber.

That's really not true though. I've had basically the same internet speed for as long as I can remember. They literally don't offer anything else where I live and it doesn't seem like that's changing.
