Okay so I was right. You can dish it out but you can't take it. You tell everyone their maps suck and then pump out 45 clones of the same exact type of boring ass map with 90° angles and tele checks everywhere. It's not 2010 anymore. Can't wait to see how you do the exact same thing with the key map.
I guess you are right. I have definitely never taken peoples feedback and have only made 90 degree maps. I am definitely not able to take it. This is ****ing hilarious.
See it's not even trolling though. Like if I got on here every single day and made fun of someone's maps, or their voice, physical appearance, their education, whatever it could be.. And then they snap back and I go "haha wow you took the bait lol trolled" Like no lmao that's not trolling. He's just an asshole and then tries to play it off like "wow you totally fell for that". Trolling would be me making a joke to xandrith and asking him how purely designed storm peaks. We all know it's a joke and it isn't true Trolling is not "Yeah I'll make a map like that, only not ****."
The act of trolling is quite literally what he does, piss people off to get responses. Trolling is meant to piss people off, it's not a friendly exchange of jokes. It's being an asshole for your own enjoyment. Even the definition of trolling is "make a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them." He did this, and oh boy did he get responses. If he is 100% serious and it is just him being an asshole, we will never know. Edit- The only difference between being an asshole and a troll is how serious they are, something we will probably never know
If that's how we're defining it then let's just call it what it is. He's being an asshole. And we can just ban him.
I guess I'll give my personal opinion of key maps as of now, and why I don't like them myself: It seems that the design philosophy of the keymaps is basically to create dead ends, and block off routes to cater to the key which is only ever in the hands of one person at any given time, leaving the other players stuck in various situations where they're backed into a corner because they don't have the key, forcing you to take the long way around a given area. I understand why these maps are designed this way, but I don't enjoy it. The part that really bugged me were the amount of dead ends intended for key spawns. I played both Arcanum and bloodlet throne, which both did the same thing: at least one huge one way room intended to make grabbing the key risky, but when that key isn't there, more often than not people just get stuck there and are naded out. I get that when you have enough map knowledge you would avoid those situations, but I don't think you should need to full on avoid an area when the key doesn't spawn there because it is 100% useless otherwise which is the case in Arcanum (big square room with the death pit; but getting stuck in the giant pit key spawn on bloodlet throne felt unavoidable as it was in such a heavily played part of the map, there were consistently players falling in, usually getting naded out since there's only one way to jump out. So to conclude, from my experience with the key maps so far, I don't necessarily dislike the idea more than it is the execution of the maps it's designed for, I think the key thing could be neat if there weren't so many important parts of the maps blocked off to make room for the key. I don't think the key should be such a powerful thing, rather it should open smaller pathways that help traverse the map faster instead of blocking off important routes or teleporters. Keep in mind this is just my personal opinion on the key maps with my experiences so far.
Everyday? We know that isn't true. The only reason you are upset is because he said your key maps were ****. He didn't even say why so who cares? No reason in replying to someone if they are not willing to explain why they say something sucks.
Dude he's literally been doing this for years. If being an asshole is trolling then what's stopping me from just posting pictures of purely every day and make fun of his weight. Haha! Trolled! Gotcha! Don't say anything back though because you'll just take the bait! Oh and your maps are ****! The dead end hall on Arcanum has literally nothing to do with key vs non key movement. Its just that hall because I thought it would make a good way to differentiate the encounters AROUND the different key spawns. Your issues with bloodlet throne don't even exist on Arcanum. I could easily shorten the length of that hallway drastically and it wouldn't change a single thing, I just thought it was a cool trap. But as it turns out, it's not a trap at all. In fact it's remarkably difficult to even nade someone out of that dead end and they can be a massive pain that takes some pretty spectacular timing to deal with. If I was to shorten that hallway it would probably WEAKEN the dead end, not make it better. Edit: not sure what you're talking about in terms of blocking paths. Every part of Arcanum is accessible without the key. It sounds like you haven't even played it lol
Ignoring him really isn't hard, you let him get to you which is exactly what he wants. Who gives a **** what he thinks about your maps. Also what is stopping you, that would be a very nice roast.
At least with Arcanum, I know Multi specifically made sure that not having the key didn't mean that you couldn't traverse the entirety of the map. Having the key basically just gave you shortcuts and opened up lines of sight that the rest of the players didn't have. But the map would still function wholly even if you removed the key entirely.
Are you serious. Then we are basically ditching all forum moderation and rules. I could be a gigantic racist asshole and post pictures of someone's wife here and insult her appearance in the name of trolling. That's not what trolling is. Trolling is extremely hyperbolic and obviously meant to be contrarian.
Instead of taking it personally (especially considering that you didnt come up with the key concept), why not entertain the idea that Tyrant is being truthful about his opinion of them? For the record: I share that opinion, to an extent. The idea is very cool, but i dont like the approach any of the maps ive seen have taken to it thus far, including Elder. I find myself feeling like the maps would simply be more enjoyable if all players had all options available to them. Thats not to say i think there cant be a great key map. I would just need to play one that alleviates the feeling i have about the ones that exist thus far.
I could repeat myself but this is easier You guys are talking about things that I literally thought about and figured out a year ago.
there's one coming out soon that you may like at least a little more then... being locked out of the doors does not drastically change your ability to move around, just the specific way you move around is broadened by having the key in hand. Though, there is at least one dead-end but it also gives you a unique vantage point, so it may be okay (it is okay in my opinion)
I'd say either: Take this to a pm Go back to using the ignore button Or file a formal report. When Salty was especially particular of my maps, I ended up pming him and let him know that whether or not his words were trolly, sarcastic or otherwise, they hurt me. I then wished him the best of luck and informed him that I had to click his ignore button because I couldn't or wouldn't be able to handle it again. You know what he did? Apologized and we came to an agreement. Mindblown.gif
Those are all fair points, but I don't think a good key map makes you feel those things very often. The point of the key, at least on Arcanum, is to give the player really, really fast counters and repositioning. The non key pathing should also be quick and provide little downtime, so in theory you get the best of both worlds. I think the only reason people think Arcanum is "against" the non-key player is that the key player exists. What if the key doors couldn't be opened? It really wouldn't be that bad.
I mean, if you thought about it and figured it out, than why do i still have that feeling about the map? I dont like playing it without the key. It feels limiting and repetitive. Dont take this personal, its my honest feelings towards all key maps ive played thus far.
