In the announcement for the 15 finalists i stated that 3 maps wont be eligible for monetary prizes because their files were modified after the due date. All three circumstances were dumb mistakes that didn't change anything relevant to the judging process and all three files were modified after the maps had plenty of play time by the judges. Recently, weedcoughs map was modified only a few days ago because he loaded it in forge and used "save as" to make a copy after FH staff member Ascend requested it for an EU HCS competition. Since it was modified it has to be treated the same as the others. They made a plea to allow the map to be monetized again but its only right that if one is monetized again, then they all are. Should all three maps be reinstated for monetary prizes? Vote and discuss please. I saved a copy of the top 15 so that forgers may now modify their files and this issue wont arise again. @xdemption @WeedCough @Minister Muffin Below is the best place for you to make your argument.
I've been thinking about this, and I think the maps should probably be reinstated. There are two ways you could go about judging a contest like this. You could judge everything as it is presented to you like a disconnected robot and disqualify maps for things like frame-rate drops, accidental edits, or bad weapon placements. The other way is to come at everything with a critical and human eye and assess every situation individually. We've already had this discussion in the 1v1 thread, in which Multi and other judges agreed that a map shouldn't be disqualified for a bad weapon placement, frame rate drops, or even a bad spawn, because that has almost nothing to do with the design of a level. So, if the judges have taken the latter approach (which they have) then shouldn't we allow maps that were accidentally changed or barely changed at all to still win money? I would think so.
If they are dumb mistakes or literally not the forgers faults, they should be considered. The judges have played the maps enough to know if substantial or even minor changes have been made to improve the map. I did none of these things. I saved it as a new map. I do regret not saving it as a copy, but honestly it didn't even dawn on me that save as would change the maps modified date. I thought if I loaded up Washed Up, and immediately saved it as Washed Up HCS, I would be working from a new file, seperate from my original contest entry. It pisses me of that it doesn't save that way and I think it's unfair for my map to be not eligible for the full prizes. Especially because I have multiple people that can vouch that the map was saved as a new one for the HCS contest and that alone. TLDR; if you've changed spawns, geometry, gameplay items or weapons on your original file after the deadline, you should be disqualified. If you're like me and made a simple saving error, all while the original map is untouched, you should have every right to be a "full" contestant. EDIT: Also, I see you mentioned that you have saved the map files yourself. This definitely should have been done in the first place to prevent glitches, accidents or purposeful edits. This should be done in future forge contests from the start.
I am okay with reinstating the maps. We had already formed our opinions on the initial versions and the changes that were made were negligible.
I'm fine with reinstating them. I know WeedCough's situation exactly and if the other two are similar, I really don't see the big deal in reinstating them.
Ofcourse a yes. I could not said it better myself than Xandrith. But why was there much more fuss about deleting a camera in the waywo on Exterr's an Icyhot's map? Anyway, big fat ****ing yes.
I havent voted, because im mixed on this. I do believe weed’s map should be the exception, because he was asked to do something on it. The other two were mistakes. Honest mistakes, but mistakes nonetheless. So, there is no option for what i choose.
So, no for the other 2? @Dunco @ACTIVATE HALO feel free to explain guys. We're not going to qualify the maps of this decision isn't almost entirely unanimous
I said no just because you've already stated they were DQ and backtracking now is gonna cause more drama later. I wouldn't have a problem with them not being DQ if it had been done behind closed doors. But it was stated up front so now you guys run the risk of the classic what if drama. Say one of those 3 makes it to top 3. 4th place may get kinda pissed cause if the DQ decision had stuck they'd be getting money headed their way. It's gonna cause bitching in the future and I know it sucks for those 3 map makers but they should just bite the bullet and only worry about placing and not the money.
I know I forgot all about the save ass glitch, and probably still would have regardless of the warning the judges made. Regarding the bitching inherent in contests, this late in the game I don't think it would be too detrimental to reinstate all 3. I think the punishing of forgers that made this far would affect input in future contests more than being a robot as xan put it.
I like the idea of keeping it simple, and yay or nay is an easy way to do that. There are other possible approaches though. You could always say that if one of the modified maps gets top 3, it receives half of the payout. The other half would go to the next highest ranking non-modified map.
bring 'em back. Forge did that time stamp thing just from opening them and not even changing anything for a while. Since this past update (someone confirm) I think this problem is now gone. If yo uopen up a forge map in... Forge... and ONLY exit the map, and never click save, there will not be a new modified date... at least in my experience.
