sometimes as few as three extraction points, apparently. I think it depends on the map. I will make the mode compatible for as many as you'd like to add, though.
There are symmetrical and asymmetrical modes. CTF is symmetrical, Strongholds is asymmetrical, and there are some modes that can do both, like Oddball or Koth. I think they are usually more interesting for asymmetric maps, but still work well on symmetrical ones. Obviously purpose building for a single mode is best, but then you have a shallow pool of play. I'd rather play oddball on 100% of the map pool if possible than 50%. I think that's what gives a game longevity.

I'm personally not a huge fan of designing symmetrical maps, but to me, they can hold an equal amount of merit for any Halo core game type. By default they do lend themselves better to gametypes like multiflag/bomb, but there is more to be said about how they play for slayer than meets the eye. I think a good symmetric slayer map emphasizes encounters/connections over the maps lines of symmetry. To me,this is the bread and butter of sym slayer maps, and they can absolutely provide experiences, especially TEAM experiences, that aysm maps cannot. Its also worth noting the importance of dynamic versus non dynamic spawning and the role spawning in general plays on sym maps.
I dare someone to make a 12-way symmetrical map for 2v2v2v2v2v2 ctf. It's possible, and I'll make the best one.

Oh, and because it uses rotational symmetry on all three axes, no two engagements are ever the same. Suck it, Multi! Edit: adding a teleporter would eff up the whole map because there'd need to be a total of 12 or 24 nodes :V
Ya know I posted Oblivion when H5 was in a pretty healthy state and it got good attention, the thread has 4.19k views currently. The Trinity thread has 7.65k views. That's almost as much as all my H5 map threads combined. And H2A was the lowest of the low for forgehub, there was no one here lol. That thread was poppin.
