I start out by blocking out ambient light. Than evenly spread lights. So they fade before they overlap. I'm trying to get clear visability... Without looking sterile or bright. Any lighting tips after blocking ambient light?
When you use a dark box on a map it is also good practice to turn lightbake off on all objects inside the box. That will give you much better control over the state of the lighting. Objects that get too close to the boundary of the dark box may need to have light bake turned back on. As for the box itself, I'd recommend all black, 256x256 floor pieces set to emissive: 0. Turn bake off on these too
All light bake off? I usually have about half the map off. Things you won't see or interact with. Turning it all off might keep things consistent. I have a few maps to try this on.
