No, it hasn't. For a very, very long time you could nominate any map that hadn't previously reached the voting stages. I liked this a lot more because it meant a better chance of having good maps in the running even during slow times on the site. There are many maps from previous months that I wish I could still nominate. The staff is probably tired of listening to me complain about Community Favorites, since I've done so repeatedly both publicly and privately, but it's literally the one area where I vehemently disagree with how it's being handled currently. There are probably only a couple handfuls of people visiting the site that have experience with both the old and the new version, and I literally can't think of anyone on that list that prefers the new version. It was implemented because it was necessary. We didn't have the staff to support continuing to run it the same way it had been traditionally. It was a good reason to do it. It's not a good reason to continue doing it, because that's no longer an issue. I know that Warholic prefers the new system because it's simpler for the staff. I don't mean any offense when I say this, but that's a really bad reason to continue using it. I know very well the downsides that come with it, since I've had a view behind the scenes. It's a sub-optimal system that produces bad results WAY too often. And it can be and is manipulated WAY too often. After about 3 years of 'refining' it, it's clear to me that it will never function as the staff wants it to function. It will always need to be monitored and fixed as mistakes come to light. This fact alone discredits the reasoning behind continuing to use it. It also puts staff in a bad position, as they're forced to choose between allowing clearly faulty results to remain the same, or to change them manually. There's a better way.
Step 1: Remove thumbnails for nominated maps. Step 2: ?????? Step 3: PROFIT Noobs only vote on the pictures.
When forge.world was up, null was using the API to program something that meant you literally couldn't review a posted map if you hadn't played the map. It would link your gamertag and check your play history. If we could have something similar to our monthly system itd be baller.
I didn't realize this would spark so much backlash. Honestly. I just want people to nominate maps. I'm sorry if it was different before. For me, it has always been monthly. I really don't want to dive into the left and right of this a g a i n. Not tonight. I just wanted Forge Critics to nominate stuff.
There's no backlash. I've been saying the same thing for a couple of years now. This was just an opportunity to correct a misunderstanding, and reiterate my stance on an issue that's important to me. I certainly don't mean anything personal by it. I'm dissatisfied with the system and the decision to stick with it. I have nothing against anyone that's involved in the decision. I realize you're all doing what you think is right. And I'm doing what I think is right by expressing my disagreement. That's all.
You guys know how sometimes everything goes wrong all at once? Yeah well 4 issues that each need large sums of money recently hit me in the past couple weeks and tonight my xbox dumped. Nothing is remaining consistent when trying to find the issue so i cant determine if its just my power supply but if it isnt then i may have to leave the judge panel for a few weeks..... or be replaced. Spoiler 1 - Xbox started stuttering after pausing the diablo update then shut off. 2 - Xbox turns on for 5 seconds then shuts off 3 - Xbox turned on, told me something went wrong and shortly gave troubleshoot screen, then turned off. 4 - Xbox turns on for 5 seconds then shuts off 5 - Xbox turned on, was working fine for 45 min while i transferred games to external(just in case it breaks) Then it turned off. 6 - Reset power supply. Power supply cycles off and on every 10 seconds(only if plugged into xbox) 7 - Reset power supply again.. same **** as above. 8 - Reset power supply again.. works fine. Xbox makes it to home then shuts off. 9 - Reset power supply again.. works fine. Xbox turns on for 5 seconds then shuts off. The thing is... i have the on/off chime turned off. It started chiming after it initially turned off except the one time it stayed on for 45 minutes. This leads me to believe some software confusion is occurring that may be caused by the new update. My xbox is well ventilated and stays quite cool. Tried directly plugging it into wall outlets with no change in results.
On the topic of map voting and ratings. I think the rating system is dumb and really doesn't get utilized in an effective way. I think most would not care if it was just removed. I mean Hot Trash is sitting with a 10/10 based off one review where nothing is really even critiqued.
NoGodAnywhere - Definitely make sure to not plug the power supply into any extension cords and always plug it directly into the wall... Also the old xbox's if they were having issues you could pull the "internal" hard drive off of them and boot them up to see if it was a hard drive issue. If you post your location, maybe someone on here can let you test their power supply (mark them with tape or something ahead of time so there isn't the this was mine issue). If all else falls through, I am willing to test each map 2 to 3 times at minimum, provide feedback for each map and I could stream it if I had to for judging purposes. NGA - I hope you get to figure it out though and continue to judge! I would say even search craigslist and Facebook marketplace for a power supply if you find that's the issue. Edit - Call Xbox and see if they can flash the xbox update to a previous firmware version if it's software related? If it's a bug, they might have a fix or a fix in progress.
Reminds me of the original white Xbox 360 days. Had so many problems with it. Had to send it to Microsoft 3 times.
It’s all a trap to get you to buy the new xbox, just like when the iPhone 8 comes out or whatever it’s called (unless it’s already out lol) they will prob sabotage everyone’s iPhone 7 I’m half joking
