Again, I don't think this is directed at you but the general discussion that occurred because of your problem.
Maybe I'm not but it sounds like the scripts running are tied into the camera use so like I said...you are making a gamble when you throw in more than just standard geometry, spawn placement, and weapon layout.
but if that's the case, then it isn't relevant to our situation, so I don't understand people talking about "broken scripts".
the issue is really one of reasonable fairness. we had no reason to believe that adding a camera sequence would ever do this, so there was no way to anticipate that something that was working perfectly, would suddenly break at the last minute. Now, the last minute part, is our fault. I think we accept that. But compared to removing/changing spawns & weapons, this is a small ask, so hopefully it will be done... I'll leave it at that, and hope for the best.
It is more so you guys sparked a conversation about what and what is not accepted as being editable by the judges and since your issue involved scripting(even though it wasn't the real issue with your map) the conversation sprang out of it. I'm just saying because I don't think it is necessary for you defend your position anymore than you have as no one has directly called you out about it recently. Just trying to save you the stress.
Well I mean if you test your map that shouldn't be a problem, cameras not working after its being submitted seems 100% related to a lack of testing to make sure everything is working. Test it once, test it twice. If you think your map is going to work fine with scripts, test it anyways because it will screw you. if someone gets eliminated because a script didn't work that is their own fault for their lack of polish and I would refuse to feel bad for them.
I thank what's so amazing is that there are still these little surprise nuggets of horrible engineering in there, and that every time one is uncovered it is still somewhat jarring and surprising. How far does this go with this company?
It goes far enough that they tell testers they won't fix something because it require them to redo to much of the build.
but that's just it, no one ever thinks "I need to test all this **** that is working perfectly once I put some cameras on" ... that would not be something any of us would have thought, so. It's like taking a screenshot... would you ever think that would break something? This is similar... some of you are behaving as though we are asking them to let us fix our map. we are not. we are asking them to delete the cameras and judge it that way. It is much less severe than the already accepted rule of allowing judges to delete weapons and spawns. this is extremely minor comparitively...
I never said that, its just your responsibility to check your map before releasing it, I would always check intro/outro cameras because I know how stubborn they can be.
look... they accepted entries that were past due date, not posted in the prescribed manner, and people who said "oops, I didn't understand how to do x y and z", so again this is extremely minor.
Read the posts- we tested for a bit more than a month on all the scripting (4 or 5 things that all work), and tested the cams as an afterthought, and nothing happened. The whole thing is a mess, and even given the testing we did do, there was nothing that could have prepared us for it.
all true, but I don't see why anyone would have an issue with us asking them to delete cameras when they are also willing to delete spawns which have been extensively tested (presumably). You're absolutely correct. BUT, we can also accept that as true AND allow us to ask to delete cameras, no?
