All map instant kill volumes disabled?

    Currently finishing my 1v1 contest map however I've come across a big issue.
    Insta kill volumes don't work at all, not even the canvas's own. Timed ones do however so I'm not sure what I've done wrong. All my budgets are in the green and I don't get any frame drops...

    Simply put... HELP!

    @Sikamikanico had the same issue within the past couple days. It ended up having something to do with Fx budget being too high. Try minimizing that, and it should fix it.

    credit goes to @Rex Journey , who typed the solution into the chatbox...

    Just thought I would post since I happened to see this first-ish

    Thanks. Sadly I can't really remove any more FX they are quite a big part of the maps aesthetics. Hell I'm only at 76%

    But I have no choice.

    there may be alternatives to the Fx pieces you are using... without giving away too much, what are they and how are they being used?

    Kill balls as lava fall. Sparks falling from a grinder... Plasma beams...

    try replacing plasma beams with a narrow focus dynamic light with a narrow focus cone effect. You can make it look like a beam and it takes zero Fx. One of the cone fx might look a lot like the plasma beams... try it out!

    would a scripted kill volume work for this problem?
    make a script brain - set the boundary where you need it - then do this script:

    When...
    -Boundary: Check
    -Enter
    -Players
    -0.00
    Do...
    -Damage: Ratio
    -Objects: ACTIVATOR [add]
    -Ratio: 100.00


    This acts exactly like the instant kill volume and doesn't use any fx budget :)

    I've compiled a few maps that have forged lava to share with you to help you update the visuals on your map and help reduce the fx budget. These maps have incredible looking lava that aren't the plasma ball. The plasma ball lava moves to uniformly and doesn't have a good depth look to it. The more you look at the more realistic your lava can end up looking and it should help the kill volumes issue.


    The one map Wyvernzu made has a few cracks in the map with lava and they look really good, even better than plasma balls. It might be worth taking a look at that map to see how it was done to (it uses the terrain, lighting and decals). I will include a link to it.

    This map also used the water and an orange chroma I think or an emissive at the right depth to simulate lava below which might help if you built on Alpine or Tidal or move the map to those canvas. It looks very realistic and doesn't use any FX.

    This was my suggestion to @Sikamikanico for his problem but then he figured out it was Fx causing it. I wouldn't do this unless a last resort, as it will not automatically give a negative point, which may be desired in this 1v1 gametype.

    ah, had no idea. I was suggesting that script because of the situation. he said his budgets were in the green and it was still happening. I don't believe in scrapping immersion if you don't have to, but that's my opinion lol.
    it's a simple fix tho, because it just replaces the kill zones he placed. no extra pieces or anything.

    hmm... he's only at 76%... this is weird. Do the stock kill volumes contribute to the Fx budget? Like, that isn't being tabulated in that %?

    Here's a tip, if you change the continuous to just "Enter" then it should always detect the player, and you will not have a script running every .05 sec when it is not needed. Could help with performance in some situations.
