here's my 'out of the ass' observation of the day: it doesn't matter how short you make a jump for people in this game, they are essentially physically required to thrust towards where they want to land simply because the mechanic exists, and if it is not utilized in every instance, the player risks missing a simple, or slightly longer than normal (or just a premature jump) - this is not something the player wants, obviously - hence, any air distance that is covered while the player is trying to actively keep their gun up will likely result in the burning of the thrust option anyway, just because the player has been trained to suspect any gap to require a thrust at walking speed (unless of course it is so small that it effectively does not carry any real risk to the player who traverses it
I think it's a problem of trust. I'm only level 54 in Halo 5, so I've played a lot of customs. Most good designers recognized the thrust issue long ago, and some even try to avoid forcing the player to clamber as much as possible. In Halo 5 developer maps, they went with scaling for movement over scaling for combat, forcing the player to use their thrust and clamber for jumps. Here's one simple trick that I came up with to avoid falling into the "I always have to thrust" mentality: Don't play Halo 5 matchmaking.
well yeah, exactly - the player does not trust the map to be designed to allow base movement across jumps, since the most important jumps are usually given the thrust treatment it's like a dog that's been beaten every time it eats, so that when it is presented with food it immediately tries and hides the greater halo 5 matchmaking population has been abused to the point where they do not even trust their eyes and revert to base reflexes whenever they are confronted with anything remotely separated and not 'sprintable'
Why not just YouTube videos of people fighting each other? You can still get your kicks without having to worry about the sheriff Win win!
Hellmouth became a thing. Although a worrying bug has occurred, where none of my insta-kill zones appear to be working. Alas, it's bedtime, and I'll have to investigate further tomorrow. I have fixed the tower, added some cool bits. It's more 2v2, but it'll play okay as a 1v1 I think.
I've been working quite hard on my map 'The Bullring' and I'd be incredibly grateful if any of you fabulous individuals might want to take a look. I'll probably make some more minor tweaks before the deadline, the spawns need a little readjusting and there are a couple of areas on the map which need reworking a tad, but everything's pretty much in place for submission now! https://www.forgehub.com/maps/the-bullring.5758/
