I'm working on three 1v1 maps: Fantasy, Modern, and Sci Fi.

The first one is a redesign of an outdoor map and it will be catered more specifically towards 1v1. If I meet my art goals, it'll be the most beautiful and atmospheric map in this game.

The second one is an indoor map that I've wanted to do for a long time, featuring many moving parts and sweaty micro paths. If scripting behaves, I think it'll be really cool, and certainly the largest departure from my style of design thus far.

The third one is a mix of indoor and outdoor playspaces. I'm not sure if the characteristic I want on the map is possible in this game, but if I can fit in in there, it'll represent a much different gameplay dynamic from the other two. If not, I'll either replace it with something or just put more of my time into the first two.

All of these maps are artistically possible in the game, so I just need to spend time making sure their dynamic elements work and the layout functions the way I need it to.

I would recommend a 28 - 30" monitor with 1ms delay response time. Large screens aren't as responsive and can feel laggy. If your playing a game casually then that's fine but I just can't force myself to play multiplayer with anything more than 1ms delay.

    Yes please.

I've been living like a caveman with a 32" vizio in my living room for like 5 years. Now I feel complete. I have done about 1 hour of gaming in the past year so it's really no big deal but my TV viewing is great now.

yeah, people are far too concerned about ultra resolution, and they don't understand that is resolution in two dimensions, or three if it is 3D.

However, resolution in the 4th dimension and accuracy therein, is one of the most important things in viewing quality, and certainly in gaming consistency and accuracy.

I purchased a 144hz monitor with 1 or 2 ms response time a year or so ago, and it is the single best tech purchase I have ever made. Getting addicted to the higher framerate in PC games which are possible due to the monitor and graphics card, is the single biggest reason I will never purchase another console again.

What do I mean by the 4th dimension? Well I'm sure you all know that means time, but in this situation the number of frames available to your eyes and brain each second provides higher resolution of refreshes over that second. you get a much smoother sense of motion and reality like the world you are viewing on the screen is more like the world around you, which has no refresh rate. The closer you get to infinite frames, the more real it looks.

And before someone responds that "your eyes can't see more than 60fps", let me preempt that point by saying that your eyes cannot ever by sync'd up with your TV ( without futuristic brain implant tech), and so the higher the frames you have available as refreshes for your eyes, the more likely a f rame will be refreshed while your brain is doing its natural 60 fps. In other words, on a 60fps TV or monitor, you are not actually seeing 60 frames every second. But rather, your eyes are seeing the frames that are refreshed at the same time your eyes are blinking at 60fps. If you could "g-sync" your eyes to your screen, you'd have perfect 4th D resolution. But since we can't, giving your brain the best chance of seeing 60 every second, is your best bet.

Better graphics & lighting> Better resolution.

have you seen Halo 5 forge maps in 4k? It looks even more fake than before. Id rather see that power go towards grass blades for terrain and better lighting.

Immersive detail seems to be what you are describing. A lot of times getting a finer line output by the higher number of pixels is not actually more immersive. You appear to value immersion over fidelity, which is certainly valid. Each generation, developers struggle with how much extra "stuff" to generate wit hthe extra power, vs how fine of detail in which it is displayed.

When I was a goat on trials I played on a tv that had a knob you turned for color. Probably from the 70s. Less delay > high resolution (if you're a try hard).
