I feel like I would be bad a judge. I'd rather make them. I've kinda breezed through on reading things, but how does everyone feel about weapons and scripting? Since it's 1v1, weapons and power-ups are your win condition if you can loot everything and keep killing. Having something like rockets makes it too easy to get an advantage, while others will take more aiming and skill.
If we've learned anything from 343 in Halo 5, it's that equal starts make everything better. I'm in favor of Rocket Launcher starts so that nobody ends up with an unfair advantage.
Please refer to (Discussion) What makes a great 1v1 map? where there has been some discussion on the subject already and possibly add a response.
Also, I apologize for any impediment my trying to organize things has caused thus far. It's my first time, so it's a bit of a learning process, please be gentle daddy
We're judging design quality not "forge skill". I don't care if you know exactly which object is 4 polygons less than another. If it's playable, it's fine by me. It's no one's fault 343 ****ed up forge so many times. Make a good looking map and a good playing map. If it hits 40 fps in a corner it's no big deal. If it's 20 across the board then fix it or youre out. We don't need a point system until the very end. We can just disqualify what's bad until we get to the final handful and then we really should just be discussing things. Not crunching numbers. 5 judges isn't necessary, nor is an odd number
I think it would be important to some forger's to have use of the points system early on. I know it would be a lot faster to go with a pass/fail in the beginning, but even being able to differentiate between a map that gets 1s across the board and one that has a couple 2s or a 3 in there would help many a forger get a feel for how their map making process can improve
In the case that framerate influences my decision whether i would want to utilize a section of a map or not during gameplay and testing then i believe it should be considered. OFC i dont plan to put a map in the dirt for losing frames here and there... im not that unrealistic. In the end i just think its important that contestants actively consider avoiding frame drops rather than "Oh the judges dont really care, whateva"
I was mostly being facetious because 343's incompetence frustrates me to no end, but obviously if the map is unplayable due to framedrops because someone decided they wanted pink trees everywhere, it should get the boot.
"Contestants should actively consider and avoid framerate drops so they are not detrimental to key locations and gameplay on their maps. If the framerate drops noticeably effect the overall experience then they will be asked to fix the issues before they're confirmed for the final results." Is that a fair request to make in the official announcement? On the judging process ima take a backseat. Whatever you guys decide is fine with me.
Schnitzel as a judge? How the hell does this make sense and is this even possible. I mean is this for real? I have no idea who to pick so I won't vote but Schnitzel will probably get the popular vote lol.
I don't think we need a 5th judge, and if i'm not mistaken that's all 4 of us that have reafirmed that
