Uhh. The opposite. 1v1 means concentrating your object density as opposed to BTB where everything is spread. My 1s map in H5 was by far the most difficult to get to acceptable performance. Also we don't need 5 judges for a 1v 1 contest what are you doing war lol
You know my thoughts on this however I thought there was a majority consensus to include a 5th judge.
Gaaaah why didn't anyone speak up earlier in waywo? There was very little resistance to the odd numbered judge idea, I think you even said having an odd number would benefit tied decisions and such. Plus as it stands, the final round is without the point system. I think that'll be a plus down the line. Notice all the I thinks in this post lol --- Double Post Merged, Aug 17, 2017 --- It's still possible to pull the 5th judge idea, but it will be disappointing to say the least to the other candidates
I definitely didn't say anything about how many judges there should be. I don't think 5 are needed regardless of how the judging is done, but that's especially true if a point system is used. It honestly makes no difference to me though. Out of curiosity, what's the reasoning for using a point system for every round, and then doing something totally different in the final round of judging?
That's my bad then, it was another person. And that was another ill choice of words on my part. Technically, the points system will still be used, but it's very likely that the top maps will all have almost/totally maxed out scores, and as such will require more critical thinking and less rubric.
I'm going to take a hard stance here and if it needs to come to a vote then so be it. The constant here is that were all working with the same engine and everyone has the same opportunity to work around it. Maps are after all meant for the gameplay they offer first and frame rate drops can be directly detrimental to gameplay in certain locations on a map. Its not a hard concept to avoid framerate issues unless you're focused on an unrealistic amount of detail in your map which is irrelevant to how it functions. All forgers start with 59FPS. The best maps will function and look great at a constant 59FPS. The less skilled forgers will have maps that don't. Its an exaggeration to say we will end up with all bland maps if we don't allow framerate drops. Framerate issues are not random and are directly tied to how well a player utilizes the budget and optimizes their maps. 343 has given us a lax budgets so that we can push the engine as far as possible under our own circumstances. The larger budget isn't an excuse to say framerate is acceptable or blame the issue on the engine. If we have to contact the forgers so they can fix their maps then fine, i can move the bar. Otherwise i will not condone maps to qualify for high placement in the competition if framerate drops remain. This is an equal opportunity over equal outcome situation.
I'm also curious about the reasoning behind having a potential judge who can't even participate in discussion on the forums. I'd trust his judgement on gameplay. It just seems weird to me...he's banned from the site, but potentially judging a site-backed contest? Edit: Just saw your last post... That's fair enough, but you missed at least one person. I know Buddy Jumps expressed interest in judging, and I thought there were others also.
Agreed. I also have backtracked some since the judges have been decided and think the 4 we have now will work out fine.
I'm not salty or anything, I figured it would be a vote or something anyway, I'm just curious how Schnitzel even knew about the desire for a 5th judge..? Does he still lurk this website? At this point, I'd rather the other judges just choose rather than have a vote... Who are the other 4? I know one is Xandrith, but that's it.
Actually I'll trade schnitz for nogodanywhere. The last thing this contest needs is someone who can't judge a map's gameplay because one corner plays at 55fps.
I read back and saw that I did miss @Buddy Jumps It was my day off from work so there really was no excuse. Judging (pun intended) from this recent turn of events, and taking into account that the focus of this tournament is having the community basically running it, what do you guys think about the current judges deciding on the 5th instead of the current public vote? @Xandrith @MultiLockOn @no god anywhere @Soldat Du Christ @Sethiroth @Blaze @D4rkDeath
