I would be th best judge for a 1v1 contest. I really only make remakes, and 1v1s were the best in past halo games! So therefore I am overly qualified! /s

I'm totally in support of @no god anywhere and @Soldat Du Christ for being the 2 remaining judges for our panel. Basically, NGA inspired me to think about 1v1's more seriously in Halo 5 so having a spot on the panel seems like a perfect match for me. Also, sorry for not formalizing this into a dedicated thread, just wanted to see the initial reactions and from the looks of the past 6 pages it looks positive. In that case, we'll support the contests with regular prizing ($1K) and I promise to follow it up with a tournament (as long as the software works for our 2v2 tournament).

I would love to continue discussing and planning this but unfortunately I'm off to the lake house for a few days and the internet is complete shite there. So hopefully I can tag team the rest of the staff on this to make things look a little more organized. What do you think of this proposed udge panel? Its not final but its what I'm personally leaning towards at the moment.

    1v1 Judges:
    - MultiLockOn
    - Xandrith
    - No God Anywhere
    - Soldat DuChrist

Alrighty, talk to you guys in a few days or so!

I agree with Nitro on the odd amount of judges, so all in all we'll just need 1 more person

Hey making the judging discussion public is a cool idea, it'd be different. Maybe make a thread that only the judges can post in but everyone can view.

Dude, I was just thinking earlier, while sitting at work at this dumbass computer, that I wish I could go home and play Halo CE Campaign for hours!

The most recent grifball contest was done well. there was a public board that only the judges could control and all the maps were played on multiple livestreams so we got the unfiltered genuine impressions of each map.

It's a lot like The Matrix Trilogy, IMO. It's hard to reproduce that feeling of having never seen anything like it before. Sequels in some ways may be technically better, but that "virgin" feeling you get from a vastly innovative, new gaming experience, will always feel special. (compared to anything already out at the time)

I love the fact that newer Halo games keep that exploit to throw a third weapon around in front of your path. Keeps things feeling like Halo CE (a little)

If thats what everyone think is best then I support that. In my opinion, its much easier to run a judging lobby if you have a partner to play with. Having a 5th wheel without a partner will create a situation where that person will need to sit out of play and wait for other judges to be available to match up. If we have two sets of two, then they can swap out players and continue to judge without any down time.

Halo CE peaks at 343 Guilty Spark IMO and becomes extremely repetitive at that point. But it was an amazing spectacle to go through back in the day and is still a solid wholesome package of narrative, progression, and encounters.

Halo 2 has great visual set pieces and a compelling narrative, but the level design - while I find it endearing due to nostalgia - amounts to nothing more than a series of long corridors with the walls often within your peripheral vision. And let's not talk about the jackal snipers or rocket flood.

Halo 3 I think is a great mix of challenge and spectacle, with its wide open sandbox encounters balanced by its indoor linear fights. To this day, I find new ways to challenge encounters in Halo 3, but it's a shame it had a lot of weak levels.

ODST has my favorite sense of progression and I enjoy each level for different reasons. It's the only game I can play start to finish in one sitting and never get bored because of how well paced it is. I do wish it was longer though.

I've gone back and forth on Reach. Visually, I like most of the levels and it has a lot of memorable encounters. But between bloom, explosion radii and the armor abilities, the combat often gets in the way during each encounter in my opinion, and the AI's unrelenting prediction makes fights often frustrating. I think Reach's highlight is how varied its gameplay and environments are; each level is very different from the last.

have the 3 sitting out do a spectator thing watching one corner/aspect of the map and take notes, then switch it all around and do it all over again until all 5 have cycled thru and played at least twice

I think I'm going to give up on the waterfall aspect and enclose it a bit more on the tower side
looks like I'm gonna end up with the same kind of framing as Sketchy

any ideas on what to do with the damage boost platform? maybe a gravity stream over to the 'shotgun spawn' on the other side of the arch? idk

To be honest, the 5th judge really doesn't have to be playing against another judge at the same time. Since this is a 1v1 thing, they technically could just play with another partner. Also, remember if you have 4 judges, it leaves the issue of ties in terms of judging on a which map is better.

was thinking "hydrophilia", but since there's no more waterfall planned, i'll meet you halfway
    how about 'Gravitas'?
