From my experience, it should definitely be an odd number of judges. I think 5 judges would be more than suffice.

I'm not going to be coy about this.

1v1's are very easy to balance, and I learned that through playing Longshots maps and watching him build them. I constantly asked him questions about how he was going about things and why he did what he did in every area, and most of the time his answer was "I don't know".

Don't get me wrong... Longshot is a very competent designer and his 1v1 maps are the best in the game by a mile in my opinion, but I realized after watching him that 90% of what goes into a 1v1 map is just creating unique and fun encounters, and disregarding balance/flow almost altogether until something proves a problem, in which case it is extremely easy to fix (like taking power away from a spot that's too powerful for example)

And trust me, I don't fail to recognize the depth that is possible for the game-type. The lack of constraints in terms of balance and flow allow for some of the most unique and creative maps (like Longshots).

Anyways, I'm don't really care that much. How many people have volunteered?

I would like to offer myself as a judge of performance, piece usage, player containment (breaks, out of bound) and particurlarly visual appearance. I'm overly meticulous, when it comes to those things. No bummer, if I'm not needed! Just wanted to throw this out there. Cheers.

I'd love to be a playtester for this kinda thing. I've got mindgame experience when it comes to Duels.

Watching everyone in WAYWO provide a short story as to why they would be a perfect judge

The Halo 1 campaign is a ****ing masterpiece.

The music, lighting, level design... Everything about is still to this day completely unparalleled as far as I can tell.

Zxample would get outvoted on everything.

At least it would be entertaining.....

Actually let's do that, and make the judging discussion public. It'll be great :). Trust me guys. /s

It's going to be the contest of all contests!

If anything, all judging should be a public Trello board and streamed. That way there was no confusion.

Seriously though for a judging a panel Longshot would probably be the best guy to do it if he's willing, considering he's one of the few guys to consistently actually make good 1v1 maps. Then add probably Multi. Other than that, I don't know of many others that at least I know of personally to recommend

The way assault of the control room/two betreyals is structed is awesome. The bridges extend over the canyon you later progress through, it's so stacked and feels like a real space because if how connected the whole level is.

It's like a Dark Souls level in many ways.

While I understand the want for transparency, I don't think a stream is will be as effective as people believe. For some it's great to see into the judging process for curiosities sake, however it also gives fuel to those who will get angry about losing a contest. You should probably have just 3 judges (you don't need an entire Congress of people bickering for days), and results should be revealed when the entire process is done. Also sometimes it takes time for someone to get a full opinion of a map, so broadcasting their first impressions to the world can be contradictive to goal in the first place.

That's understandable. Between judging the Extermination and Grifball contests, it was sort of nice to have laid out for people to view whenever they could. For the most part, there was minimal issues with being butthurt about the chatter of their maps. But we're talking about creative people here and it's a challenge for some people to take that criticism.

I'll throw in another comment too. Trying to get multiple people in on the same judging timeline was atrocious. Rarely did we ever get everyone on at the same time. So keeping the judging panel down to a minimum would work best. Minimum of 3 - Max of 5 is my suggestion. I also would love to see Multi, Xzamplez and others on the same panel. It would be good to have different views on what level design is better, especially since they're tough on one another. But I am afraid that judging would become a chore and the level headedness would get thrown out. If all parties were willing to put their differences aside or judge in different times (since 1v1's don't require a full team of 4's), I think it would work.

Multi and I are not the same person, and we definitely don't hold the same perspective on everything.

The fact that I even have to say it makes me cringe.

Always bugs me that people try to compare you to Multi. I mean c'mon, Christian would never start a Pornhub tantrum.

No ****... But you hold similar values when it comes to game play, many that I hold as well. But I was joking regardless.

Anyway, I'd rather see you working on your making your maps awesome instead of using up your time judging a contest of 1v1s that you don't even like the gameplay for in the first place (with default H5 I don't either).
And I doubt we're ballsy enough to make it old school/evolved settings to make it actually enjoyable

Well I don't like Halo 5 in general but I've literally never said that I especially dislike 1v1's. One of the cool things about design in the context of a bad game is that good enough map can overcome some of its problems. This is definitely true for 1v1's AND you can get away with a lot more in the game-type, so from that perspective I really enjoy them.

From what I understand the bulk of what makes judging a feat is getting everyone online at the same time... but that wouldn't really be an issue with 1v1's. My map will be fine I promise

Gonna have to disagree with you there. A lot of it feels far too repetitive and unnecessarily long. Halo 2 and 3 campaigns eclipse it in overall quality IMO.

I respect your opinion on the matter and see it as valid even thought I disagree.
