Oh darn, and here I thought I was gonna grow. Better start practicing my hanger organizing for GoodWill
The guy who made an octagon and called it "innovative" is the same guy who's saying that goat hasn't proved himself lmao what world are we living in also war please do us all a favor and ban yourself already
don't even bother. if someone isn't self aware enough to recognize they are full of straw man arguments and other dishonest fallacies, they wont be able to recognize anything beyond their shallow perspective, much less articulate why they hold the positions they do. it is simply impossible to have any kind of exchange of ideas with someone who parses everything said through arbitrary filters. it's the typical modus operandi of left wing nutjobs - avoid anything that dares to challenge them and pretend to be morally virtuous or intellectually superior.
I try to change for the better each day. I enjoy being wrong because it affords me a handcrafted lesson to be learned without having the worst case scenario to experience it. Unless someone's affecting my physical health, I'll try to be their friend. I also enjoy people telling me they don't want to be friends as it frees up time to spend with others that do. Positive progress is cool bruh
Some people need to learn the hard way and experience the worst case scenario before they admit to being wrong. And others still will refuse to do even that, either because of pride or because of the fear of being uncomfortable. This extends far beyond Forge; it's something I experience on a regular basis when some talentless artist walks into the studio and tries to tell me, the engineer, why their pitchy mix isn't off key. Growth is a sign of intelligence, open-mindedness, and emotional depth. Without those things, you may as well be a robot programmed to continue along your current trajectory until you malfunction.
I get hard when my pride is challenged. As far as uncomfortable situations go, I like being a part of as many as possible to get those particular "lessons" out of the way. Like a college student that will take on extra classes to graduate early. What are the worst things that could happen when words are exchanged? Being wrong? Getting "attacked"? Losing contact with 1 whole person? Or even losing control of your composure? At the end of the day, you'll still be alive, and you'll have all of tomorrow to "make up" for the wrongs of today. 1st world problems
Dude, you're already making encounters that I find interesting, even though it's almost all 90 degree angles. Take notes, eggshampolls.
"This map has these issues." "You haven't proven yourself as a competent designer." "Okay... here is my thorough explanation of why I think it has these issues." "You're all talk" "Alright. Here's gameplay footage, heatmaps, player stats, and feedback from good players and good designers to support my observations about the map's issues." "You don't have your own opinions." "Swell. Well are you going to explain why it doesn't have those issues? " "Nah, you're done. Checkmate." "Fine. Here's a map I played dozens of times and released that proves I'm a competent designer. Will you entertain the discussion now?" "That map doesn't count because you removed it from ForgeHub." "Ugh, the map got played. A lot. And the file still exists. Go look at it." "Meh, it's not very interesting. It's just terrain." "Yes it's a simple map using proven concepts, and it works, like your simple maps made out of blocks" "But mine are strictly gameplay oriented" "Why do you think mine are not gameplay oriented?" "Because you only think about the themes at the expense of the gameplay." "Umm I always think about gameplay. Here' an example." "It wont play well." "What makes you think it wont play well?" "Because you don't think about flow." "But I just showed you a map designed completely around flow." "...well it has to fit your theme!" "The theme was made to be flexible. Here are options I have considered to solve problems." "Y-you're all talk!" "What part of what I said would not work?" "Y-you're not a competent designer!" "So.... we're back to square one and you haven't actually said anything. I think you're an idiot." "I'm sick of you attacking me! B-baka!"
Holy **** that last line was killer #radicalbro --- Double Post Merged, Aug 14, 2017 --- My ribs are disintegrating from laughter jfc xD
Remember rememember the end of December when I shared a blockout in this thread? A blockout of a map I designed in 3 days back in MCC and built for this game in February 2016; a blockout that I actually tested (with default settings) that was generally well received - by good designers and good players; a blockout I didn't like enough to refine the layout, do an art pass and finish? Pepperidge farm remembers. Every issue with this design's flow, sightlines or segmentation was fixed in 10 minutes. But I guess I'm just too incompetent to upload it to ForgeHub ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"With so much drama in the H-U-B It's kinda hard being MULLER T-J-E But I, somehow some way, Keep coming up with funky ass maps like every single day."
well it's better to be funky than boring, because you can learn the ins and outs of level design. Creativity can't really be taught
Creativity cannot be taught, but it can be learned. That's why I keep poking everyone about my maps lately; my adult brain is finally fully formed at 28 years old and I want to take advantage of the fresh activity
I view creativity as an area of the brain that is either open when you're born, or requires a manual twist of the valve. So yes, you can't teach someone to open a part of their own brain; they have to do it on their own. You have to open your mind to channel your own creativity.
Well to say that creativity can be learned is by definition to say that it can be taught. To learn something, you must either be taught by yourself or someone else. However, I was careful to say it can't really be taught, because even thought it technically can be, it's an extremely slow process. Someone who isn't high in openness will never be as creative as someone who is. You can work at it, but it's largely decided by how your brain is naturally wired. People really don't like accepting that, but it's demonstrably true. Facts don't care about your feelings!
