Yeti For Hire submitted a new map: Black Ice - A remake of Blackout from H3 Read more about this map...
The colors kind of feel all over the place, but for the most part it looks like another standard remake. I feel like you could do more with it. Not really sure if you were trying to hit a theme or not.
Of course I did, the scale seems accurate, but the colors make the whole thing look like it was drawn with a crayon. The ice behind looks very bland, like more could be there so it doesn't look like a piece we have all seen a thousand times. Putting these pictures side by side just helps my point. They don't look alike in color at all. Maybe play with the filter or something. The current colors make it seem like you were going for a different theme than this. I don't feel like I'm on Blackout. I feel like I'm on a rainbow. The map scale is fine, I just don't like how it was colored. Foge, I like Yeti's work, it's the only reason I said anything at all. If you want accuracy, make the colors accurate.
A lot of the things you are mentioning were done because of framerate issues. At the start of the project, the colors on the map were much more subtle, but required more pieces (causing framerate). The railings (for example) didn't start out as a solid yellow rail. They were very detailed and reflected the ones on Black out more. But, because of budget and frames, I had to change them. Same goes for the terrain, which at one time, was very nice and intricate. I'll mess around with the ice wall and see what I can get away with (without ruining the map stability of course). Anyway, I appreciate you for taking the time to look at it and giving the feedback. If you have any more suggestions, I like to hear them BTW the colors are correct. It is just the lighting/contrast that makes them look weird. I'll try filters and other things to make it blend better, but we'll see.
I think the colors looks off due to the lighting. The original Blackout was overall darker so the red and blue walls appeared as a darker shade. Making the walls more metallic might reflect more light as well and make it look less bland. I recommend maybe playing around with chromas and boxing in your map to make it dark and then light it up using the lamps. I addition, you could increase the fog thickness and still create a decent backdrop all around using minimal ice junks. One eye soar is the amount of frost overlay and the inconsistency between buildings/walls. On sniper tower there is so much white it kinda does look like the tower was white and someone colored it blue with a crayon. Yet on lower sniper tower there is no frost at all? Why? Same on the panel above lift, it just looks off as the building right below it has less frost. I recommend maybe finding a happy medium all around. I hope some of this feedback helps.
I'll take another look. The frame rate problem in this forge is very limiting. Scale is good bro, I just wonder if you should use a filter or even do what TimeDipper suggested.
I would personally use the gloom FX for this map or at least experiment, I know its very dark but gloom not only tones down the colors, but makes the whole map way darker, all you would have to do then is find a way to lighten up the map.
