alright, barring my snafu re. exterm scripting, the baby is delivered https://www.forgehub.com/maps/sketchy-presets.5484/ enjoi! more screenshots are on my waypoint collection, but I can't seem to get past the first page to the other page where there are more - also, there is a gameclip apparently uploading, but I haven't seen it yet
Generally agree, but giving a player too much power can make the game less interesting. Salty is always talking about linear design, which limits what players can do in order to make their decisions impactful. I think this is a tasteful way of nerfing. Similarly, if a map had no walls and let players do all sorts of bonkers crazy jumps and stuff all the time, I would call this a universal buff, and find it less interesting. Although I suppose this video is supposed to address an imbalance, and not just making stuff stupid-strong for giggles. I'm also kind of weird in my preference for really dirty gameplay. I like when people play games in unconventional ways, so I'm pretty interested in a basketball game with fewer than 40 total points scored. In that regard, I find often find really slow games of Halo really fun, as long as I'm not just sitting still and waiting. In Magic: the Gathering, I love draw-go games for similar reasons. I guess I'm just saying that nerfs, the way they are described in the video, might not annoy me as much--unless it truly does make for repetitive, static gameplay.
@icyhotspartin Extermination is a community made gamemode that was in matchmaking. In order for it to work, a map requires a special set of Script Brains that run the stuff that makes the mode work. These same brains will prevent a map from being played properly on any other mode. What I'm saying is that you need to decide if this is a core map or an extermination map. You can't have both. Don't take this the wrong way, but did you even know what Exterm was?
Idk if you saw, but I provided some suggestions for how to help this issue in an earlier post in this thread. Idk if you can do anything about it or even want to but if you wanna take a look, that'd be nice.
I do know what it is but I didn't pay any attention to the stuff under the hood, guess I just figured it was made in normal customs options - how labor-intensive is the script injection? if its a lot, then it still works for 2v2 or 4v4 slayer
So out of those 4 points, the one that is most feasible is maybe including a link to the map post. I do not work with that type of site development stuff but I can tell you that as it is, it's not like flipping a switch. We just can't say "I WANT THIS NOW" and then have it happen instantly. But I do feel like this would be a good thing to include. As far as "Community Faves Lobbies" goes, that just seems like hand holding. Why should we have to host a specific lobby for people to look at 8 maps? I get that people have different schedules but if we are trying to account for that, why would we have a scheduled event? See what I'm getting at. What's more, you don't need a lobby to play Puzzle maps, races, aesthetics maps. etc. You would mainly need to play-play core, some minigame and infection maps. That shouldn't be terribly hard for people. What's more, if you are unsure about the choices, you can just click "back" and do your own research. Look at the map page, see if there's anything on Youtube. These all seem like simple things ya know. The staff shouldn't have to guide that and if anything, the less involved staff are with voting the better. Helps deter any "Corrupt Staff" claims. I'd also be against having a short how it plays section too. There is plenty of room for bias in that. If anything I would just include a little icon that specifies what mode the map is for but at the same time, why not just visit the map page.
@icyhotspartin This is the latest set of gamemode brains: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/...ax Extra_19cc1eb0-7609-467c-8be0-89cd86b7a395 All you would to do is drop these on the map and then ungroup them. But like I said, once it's an Exterm map, it is just an Exterm map. The choice is yours but I would suggest having it played on regular slayer first and then get feedback on if people think it'll play exterm. Pretty much all exterm maps are built specifically for Exterm so this map might not play it just right if it wasn't your main focus. I don't say that to be snobby, I'm just saying that Exterm is a greedy mode and maps for it have a different set of rule of thumbs
oh cool thanks! I'll just save a copy as exterm just in case yeah yeah for sure - think it'll work ok because it's small and has only 1 power weapon, but if anything were to cripple it it might be the spawns, because it's pretty open
You can fly around in theater mode in forge. Hold D-pad UP and X (default buttons). This works in monitor and Spartan mode.
Forging on the corner of alpine, near the death boundries, got a lot of terrain outside the boundires, light bake all off. As I was walking around with the light baked, I noticed walking between a certain area, the shadows on terrain in and outside the boundries broke. I had my lightmap at 130% at one point, brought it down to 78%, didn't change. Is my lighting broken, am I just to close to the edge or is that a bug with having objects outside the death boundries? Anyone know the cause? I am no really bothered about reforging it, just wanna know what the problem is before I do reforge and end up with the same problem.
related to that question... is there a way to forge outside of maps like Colluseum? I want those rocky structures in a map, BAD!
I think @SaltyKoala had the same issue on a map he was working on near the waterfall on Alpine. I'm pretty sure that area of the canvas can cause other issues as well. You may want to try and move your map out of that area section by section if you want to save it.
