My amazing analogy was extremely practical and applied perfectly. /s When it comes to halo 5 it seems as though 343 went the buff everything route and we know how that story ends. Otherwise this fighting game, basketball, and destiny application i cant comment on. Ill leave you guys to it. I still think that guy has moveset variety and nerf/balancing mixed up.
"Look at a song. If everything is the same frequency, your mix is going to be flat, sterile, and uninteresting to listen to. That's why the bass is lowered and tucked behind the instruments" I think you mean "amplitude", not "frequency". Valid point regardless.
The way I see it you may as well buff everything, but in a different way. Take goat's recording analogy - in order to make a sexy mix you have to buff each track in the correct manner - you're buffing the location and certain traits (noise gate, treble, bass, whatever) of the track, and nerfing others (maybe volume or reverb or something) depending solely on the instrument and what it's supposed to be doing. Look at AC/DC - some say their music is flat, but their tracks are balanced exactly the way you'd hear them if they were live: the drums are a solid, central track, the bass is just to the right of them (down volume but not so much that you can't hear it), rhythm to the left, angus to the right center, and vocals to the left center, with backup vocals mapped to the rhythm and bass locations. It's technically 'unbalanced' because angus/vocals/drums are the loudest and easiest to hear, but any musician worth their salt will be able to pick it apart and appreciate how well balanced it is, based on how the 'nerfed' instruments lend themselves to fleshing out the sonic landscape. In fact, the first thing you learn when taking piano lessons (other than middle C) is balance; you can't be playing the base chords louder than the melody (unless of course it is marked as such in the urtext), and so you must not only buff the right hand over the left (not drowning it out of course, but it is not equal), but also buff both hands in a concert setting (no one can hear you playing pianissimo in the rafters if you play like you would at home - hall shapes the volume and the duration of staccato for example) and be able to buff the most important line or elements of the price when they show up, or even be able to improvise your balance on the go to surprise the audience and keep it interesting. If everything has value, nothing has value; if nothing has value, why bother?
I think you've just got to think about the problem you are trying to solve, and whether nerfing one thing, or buffing another, is going to fix the gamplay "issue" you've identified. Last night in Castle Wars "Reforged", I noticed the ghost is too dominant when there are smaller numbers. To fix that, I'm trying a longer respawn so it is more of an occasional nuisance. Players then have more opportunity to gain the plasmas and things that can counter it (I think) I also noticed players can sometimes too easily push across the bridge in these same low player count situations - I swapped the locations of the BRs and DMR, and then nerfed their ammo. The DMR at middle bridge was too powerful with 1 extra clip, and the BRs were too week up top of the bases. That area really needs the more precise DMR but extra clips would be too dominant, so it is reduced to no clips. you'll need to pick and choose when to use it and not waste. The br is better for the mid-bridge area because it is less precise at distance, but can fight back against the downward shots of those DMRs. At least that's the theory - more tests will reveal if correct.
Community Favorites are back this month and the selections are great! We're still going to be working on improvements through August but didn't want to miss out on allowing everyone to vote this month since it looks like we're happier with the current system. A new change we made that is currently live allows 'forge critics' to nominate maps for community favorites, so if you're a 'forge critic' please look out for the 'nominate for community favorite' button on the sidebar of each map page. As a reminder, the selection process is still primarily dominated by the entire community and not forge critics alone. A nomination by a forge critic will give a map a nice 'boost' to help drive the best maps forward with more accuracy and human interaction than before. We pushed these changes today so your nominations will affect future community favorite selections, starting August.
Is the community really so dead that Worthy is a top contender? Vespine is literally the only interesting map in the line up.
How dare you, MY map is in there. --- Double Post Merged, Jul 25, 2017 --- Also if y'all would do more map reviews and commenting you'd probably see "better" maps in there
Real waywo talk, me n @Yumudas Beegbut just thought of a cool 4v4 game mechanism. A scripted door that only opens when 2 or more people are within its opening vicinity. Let's welcome back the buddy system!
Sentenced is finally in a playable state! Give it a DL and play some Slayer on it when you can. 2v2, 4v4.
nu art direction of warmth oddly enough the SkP_beta_cold.png image would not upload, even though it's basically the same image as the _warm version godrays are not pictured in the last screenshot, but they're there now - link is the same for download - take a spin! yell at me! tell me why my back climb pathway is trash (note exit up at top mid)
amplitude (volume), frequency (bass/mid/treble), and pitch (tune/key) are completely different things in music EQ
Pitch and frequency are literally the same thing except that describing a pitch in frequency is logarithmic of said pitch relative to A=440Hz or whatever tuning you choose. p.s. A=432Hz is stupid conspiracy crap. Don't use it, you freaks.
Duh, amplitude is completely separate. However bass/mid/treble are categories of voices, which operate in their respective ranges of pitch... so it's easy to mix frequency and pitch up when not in solid context. When you said, "if everything is the same frequency, your mix is going to be flat, sterile, and uninteresting to listen to," I imagined no variety of pitches, which would create some boring-ass music (@Drake)
The words can be interchangeable, but my usage of frequency as it pertained to EQ was correct. That's a bit of a stretch but okay.
