I'm just trolling goat, always tryin to stir a pot. --- Double Post Merged, Jul 6, 2017 --- Weird, I haven't heard from Shad0wV1per in a long time.
Exactly!! I'm glad we agree. lol To be honest, I see the whole discussion as pointless. I just enjoy pointing out both sides of arguments.
Well I was trying to suggest that, even though that it a technically valid perspective, that it is more wrong than right.
@a Chunk Thank you for explaining my perspective on the topic better than I have. @iTs_NeXn Not to drag you in, but I'd love to hear your take on the concept of originality in level design. And it's good to hear from you again.
Any given 3d space has infinite geometric potential. Unless you can disprove that sentence, your perspective that "it's all been done" is absolute bullshit. And argument can be made that nothing is truly original, but to say that everything has been done somewhere else or sometime else (unless you are God) is a completely unsubstantiated claim. What is especially funny to me is that you went from saying, and I quote, "No one can say for sure what has and hasn't been done" to "It's all been done" That just proves how completely oblivious of your own contradictions you are.
Again, I'll give you a chance by responding to you. Keep it civil, and we'll be fine. "No one can say for sure what has and hasn't been done." refers to specific ideas and features a map might have. "It's all been done." refers to the basic concepts that all maps share.
Let's all remember than this entire argument started with YOU insulting others. You passed up the high road a long time ago. Like I said before. Saying that it's "all been done" because all maps share basic concepts like pathing, spawns, and lines of sight, is like saying that every book that will ever be written has already been written because all books share the same set of words. An argument can be made that no book that will ever be written is truly original because no new words are being created, but that is NOT the same as suggesting that every combination of words already exists somewhere. There is effectively an infinite combination of words, and there is an infinite set of possibilities within a 3d space. It's not actually possible for every book or map ever to exist. In short, can anything truly be original? Like Chunk said, that depends on your perspective. However, can something be a new combination of what already exists? Yes, absolutely.
I addressed Multi. You antagonized me. It was at least fifteen pages back. Let it go. Your last segment is literally my exact point. And that was why I kept saying that the identity of a map lies in its intricacies, as opposed to the broad concept. While Multi sees maps for what they have in common, I see them for their differences. That's why I don't see High Guard and Optic Prison as 'playing the same', even though they have a similar concept.
"I addressed Multi. You antagonized me. It was at least fifteen pages back. Let it go." Okay, no. You're the one who keeps bringing it up. Go back and read. And no, my last sentence is NOT your point, unless you want to suddenly change your stance. Creating something new within a 3d space is possible on all levels. I never pointed to any one part of a map. You can create an entirely new overall shape (shapes are infinite) and then create entirely new encounters within that shape. To come at it from a simpler angle, the proof is in the pudding. Optic Prison and Highguard play very similarly. Highguard is more refined, but the same overarching side v side theme is present in every encounter. That's literally the point of this entire discussion. These are very simple lines of logic that you seem to be having a very hard time grasping. With that being said, I really don't have any interest in arguing with you anymore. You conveniently ignore every point that can't be answered with "It's just my opinion", and have shown yourself to be either unwilling or incapable of understanding these very basic philosophical ideas.
I haven't brought it up a single time, Jesus Christ. Me saying 'I'll respond to you if you don't throw some childish comments in your responses.' isn't me bringing up what happened a few days back. The slew of insults go back way further than that, and I'm saying I don't want to have it anymore. On either side. "Very similarly" is a relative term. I believe they play quite differently. High Guard isn't more refined. I understand them very well, actually. That's fine, man. There's never anything constructive that comes from our exchanges anyhow.
I'd argue it's simpler than that >Snipers >Play well Like a single sniper on a small map is fine, but the larger the map the more obvious the gap between the magnum and sniper becomes. It'd be nice if they at least released a H3 sniper if not H3A but they'd probably ruin that too.
Oh my gosh ahahaha you actually answered with "I believe" hahahahahaha "I understand them very well, actually." Yeah no you definitely do not, because if you did you would actually contest my points instead of writing about how much you understand them "That's fine, man. There's never anything constructive that comes from our exchanges anyhow." Because you flat out ignore everything that can't be answered with "WAHHHHHHHHHHHH ITS MY OPINION." Source: every post you've ever made
Guy who says there are infinite possibilities thinks maps are too similar. Guy who says it's all been done thinks maps are unique. Hmm.
Are you trolling or do I need to explain why that's wrong I'm not even kidding I just don't want to be that guy who responds seriously to a goof
Nothing xzamples says matters because he's already given hundreds of dollars to shitty playing maps that were boring instead of well playing creative maps, he's always going to hate anything that doesn't look like a grey box.
This is why this WIP thread never gets any maps posted on it. Just post maps and give reviews. The last post I've seen relating to what someone is working on was on page 738. Have these pointless arguements in a thread elsewhere... For the record though I'm with multilockon and Xandrith. Sorry xzamples
