the quantity of entries and quality due to the fact that most people dont actually test their maps wouldn't be worth it.
No point to contests. Everythings already been done. Sorry guys lol slow day at work which means I sit here and **** talk
It's all good bruh, we know you're a big softie on the inside, full of rainbows and sunshine. I'm on the opposite end right now: Cherry Festival is happening in Traverse City right now, and coupled with the 4th I've been getting slammed the last 6 days. My ass feels like the hamburgers I cook
I've got a challenge for you all. Make an open 4v4 map large enough to support worthogs with duel snipers and no tier 1 weapons besides what you spawn with. Now here's the trick: it has to play well.
your job shouldn't even exist, everything has already been done so it's silly to try and create something new
I know you guys are just having a laugh about this, but it all HAS been done, depending upon how you look at it. There's really no denying that we're all building within an established structure. At the most basic level, you're battling opponents with guns, grenades, and melees. One layer deeper and you have basic map shapes and/or movement patterns. Dig a bit further and you see that all levels consist of floors, walls, ramps, and space. Deeper yet and you have the details in how floors and walls connect to create those shapes and movement patterns. From one perspective, every map contains essentially the same core building blocks mentioned above. From another perspective, there's nearly unending variation in how those core building blocks can be combined. I see both perspectives as correct/accurate. --- Double Post Merged, Jul 5, 2017 --- That wasn't neutral. At least not in the gametype the map was designed for.
What up. I like lurking because sometimes I miss forging. I'm surprised at how rad forging looks nowadays (not caught up on how things play in the new Halos). (Programming all day makes me want to take a stab at making my own Quake-style FPS.)
Yes, the building blocks are consistent, but there is quite literally an infinite number of possibilities within a 3d space.
Of course. And if I said that it's impossible to make something truly unique because anything you make will be a combination of concepts that already exist, that would also be true. It's totally a matter of perspective. --- Double Post Merged, Jul 6, 2017 --- Probably something Mega Bloks related, lol.
But I thought you didn't have to test your maps if you know how they should play when forging them...
Sure, you could have that perspective if you want, but calling it "right" is something different. That's like saying that no book or musical composition is truly original because it's all just a re-arrangement of words and notes.
