Go back and read. Nobody here is talking about the soviet army. And yes, I'm done replying to LargerFiend, because that's what he does. Where have you been to call him out before I used his own tactics against him?
The Soviets were clearly involved in the conflict that was WWII, and no specific army was mentioned. My point remains valid. To the second statement: I was bored and had an opinion at hand to I saw this as a good opportunity to butt in.
It's pretty obvious that there's a political element of the inclusion of female soldiers in a WWII allied/axis setting (note Jezebel article mentioning having killed a black woman **** while playing as a white male ally - ironic, huh? -being a transformative experience in the author's life), but on the whole it isn't too crazy... though perhaps more appropriate for a class-based shooter like battlefield, where factions and classes would have their own player models and playstyles - i.e. soviet female snipers far, FAR more likely than a british infantrywoman on the frontlines, let alone an african female **** in Europe - as it is, its just... silly? not very well-thought out, blatantly 'progressive', doesn't affect gameplay at all, and essentially cosmetic for those 'diversity points'. Is this ethical? Is this honest? Will it help sales? My predictions are borderline, no, and probably not, given how the Marvel Comics Universe has fared with diversity points. Only time will tell how Activision responds if it actually hurts sales. I can only hope that they respond intelligently, rather than try and push for more diversity points. That being said, making two versions of the game (one with swastikas everywhere and another with all replaced) is time-consuming, and potentially limiting with regards to sales - the Germany point is true, any displays of **** imagery (save for in educational contexts) are outlawed, so Activision is probably trying to scoot around this barrier; multiplayer is likely not considered "educational" or "narrative-based", so they can't be in there, but the campaign is arguably "educational material", given that it is apparently attempting some level of realism with regards to the depiction of the conditions and events of the war. Basically, everything is Germany's fault.
My original post said American army. Like I said, go back and read. I'll gladly start quoting if you're actually going to be this stubborn.
I don't care enough about COD to get too involved here, much less a Sledgehammer COD game. That being said censoring history is dumb, there's no excuse for that. But female multiplayer characters are fine, it's a video game. As long as they don't try to force a female character in the campaign into an impossible role that wouldn't exist for her at the time, I'm fine with it. Campaign is for story and realism, multiplayer shouldn't be held up to the same standard imo.

Is it just me or did E3 have a lot of doubles this year? It looked like the companies wanted to outdo each other with similar games. That Xbox Fox game looked like Crash Bandicoot, Anthem like a better Destiny 2; did I mention racing games? Blood and Bones looked like a realistic version of Sea of Thieves and so on... Anyways, I'm actually tempted to buy a PS at some point in the future... Top 3 games for me were Days Gone, Shadow of the Colossus and Anthem. Didn't see enough of Ori, but that's gonna be great, too.
