censoring the most recognizable symbol of the era is stupid, but adding in a female character option for the video game players is whatever. cod has a significant female player base, and taking them out to be "historically accurate" would be like removing elites from halo 4 MP because they're "war games simulations".
Except WW2 actually happened. I wouldn't care about the option either if the motive was pure, but it's obvious to me there is some bullshit progressive virtue signalling going on here. Especially after the reveal trailer, which was 5 minutes of the developers talking about how historically accurate this game will be. I need a meteor to hit Earth ASAP.
They've actually hired a lot of historians that they've worked with throughout the entire project. Not sure what's going on with the whole swastika nonsense. Anyways. So I got to talk to both id studio heads, the bald guy in the video in the quake champions thread here I had about a 5 minute discussion with and he seemed pretty stuck in his ways about the classes and other nonsense. I tried explaining my reasoning but he just kept smiling at me and saying "just try it". Which I did, and I wrecked the devs lol. Went over to the Bethesda VR booth and while my co-worker was in there doing doom vr I struck up a conversation with Marty Stratton (other studio head over the Doom projects at id). That conversation actually turned into 20 minutes or so and I could tell he actually liked what I had to say because he pulled me aside and we talked in a private room away from everyone. He asked why I didn't like Doom's mp, what I thought about the level design, and I explained my whole background blah blah end of story he actually asked me for my name and number which was really cool. He's seriously the most down to earth guy ever. Cod ww2 I think will be the best cod to ever come out. The game is really good and has great maps to back it up. Made a looooot of connections yesterday. Also E3 has nothing to do with games and everything to do with the parties after
Regarding the name of the Xbox one x this was from an interview the other day Phil Spencer: Getting the trademark for Scorpio is really hard. When we do names, you have to pick global names for things. And frankly, while it seems cool right now, two years from now for somebody who doesn't know where this console came from, it can be a little confusing and off-putting of, why is this thing called Scorpio? Even though I love that. So, I'm not leaking anything, but I will say we love the name Scorpio. For those of us who have been through this 18 month journey we want to do something to celebrate that. But the name X was, as I said on stage, honestly, the mantra 'there's no power greater than X' was something that drove us early on in the original Xbox days, so we felt like it fit, and I like the name Phil Spencer:I've been in this job three years and focused on hardware innovation and I think we've landed two great consoles in the last two years, with Xbox One S and Xbox One X. I've focused a lot on live innovation and getting our developer platform as much as the consumer side of the platform in shape. I'm spending a lot of time on our first-party right now. I do think we have an opportunity to get better in first-party and to grow. We've got great support from the company to go do that. We've signed some things we haven't announced. I'm not gonna go stand on-stage - I've lived through announcing things too early and then had to live up to the hype while you're trying to go build the game, and I'm learning. I'm not a big fan of that. So I want to give teams the time. Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-06-12-the-big-interview-xbox-boss-phil-spencer
Well.. First of all I said best COD, not best FPS lol. I don't even like COD. Also I'm not even working on WW2.
This is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, and a hypocritcal one at that, but I'll share it anyways. Feel free to Rip into me. If I try to remove my mindset from what societal norms have taught and conditioned me into believing is a okay form of entertainment, the idea of a "Historical" FPS being played by the youth is extremely disrespectful and distasteful to begin with and it makes light of the atrocities of War.Due to that reason alone, I'm not sure why they bothered not using the swastika when the entire thing is disrespectful to begin with. Not using it makes it even more so in a way. This is America tho. God Bless baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet! Oh and glorified violence, can't forget that one lol
When it comes to historical censorship, Jeff Goldblum said it best: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should."
The great opium dynasty's of old ever lingering influence on America and war for blood+ money are absolutely hilarious! Good one xandrith. "To censor history is to deny it's existence" - Xandrith
From a personal standpoint I think it's kind of disrespectful to all the male soldiers that participated in WWII. It wouldn't even be THAT bad if they said it wasn't going to be historically accurate. I get that a lot of women were in WWII, but they were off the front line. The only significant signs of women being on the front line was the French Resistance and a handful of Russian Sniper squads. IDK why people are using that as an excuse for the American and German factions. The censoring of the Swastika is so unnecessary as well. It's history, it happened, get over it. Just like all the prior CoD WWII games before, just make a censored version for Germany. Even Zombies Chronicles is suffering from this and their first entry was called ****ing **** ZOMBIES. P.S. - Technically Elites did participate in War Games simulations along side Spartans (I.E. story line reference and Halo Online), 343 just sucks.
