Like I said: That's the result of how you act to people here. You have to accept that reality. Find another site to do it, or host it yourself. If you can't generate hype behind a 5k prize pool, I don't know what to say.
Haha I liked that one. Made me realize I could be good at forging things other than straight competitive maps
Honestly, you've repeatedly ripped on the how the site runs contests, how the judges judge them, and the quality of the results...and at the same time think they're just going to essentially hand a contest over to you to run? You must recognize why there would be some serious, serious apprehension on their part.
That criticism is in line with someone running to be the president, criticising the current president for shitty policies, and wanting to get in and fix them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I see contests with large prize pools that generate a lot of traffic within a community I've spent a decade in. If I believe I can turn a much, MUCH better result and leave more people satisfied at the end of this then yes I'm going to lobby for that. I would think someone that is in charge of this site would want the most knowledgeable and confident people judging these sort of things, correct?
A more apt comparison would be telling the president he has no idea what he/she's doing and that they've made a bunch of shitty decisions, and then lobbying to work with them. I'm not even trying to suggest that criticism is a bad thing, because it's definitely not. I'm just saying that when you criticize people, don't be surprised if it factors into their decision on whether they'll be willing to work with you.
If my criticism of their quality of work prevents me from being placed into a position where I can do good work than that is complete insecurity and poor leadership on their part. Not mine. You're basically admitting that whatever shitty leadership is in place is leading from an emotional stance. Also even with your "corrected" comparison, I literally see nothing wrong with that. Someone criticizes, they're brought in, they help. And to be more specific. I heard we were having a doubles contest. I offered my help to war. He brings in xzamples instead. And goat was brought on late as well if I remember correctly. Edit: I'd say your example is also inaccurate because I'm not offering to be part of a judging panel at wars discretion. I'm offering to be the judging panel.
@MultiLockOn I'm pretty sure if you came to @WARHOLIC and requested to hold your own contest an provided your own prize pool, he'd gladly oblige and let you use this site to advertise it. @Given To Fly would likely be more then willing to do the write-up for it. I'm also sure it's catch 343i and alot of the collective forge group know uny so that connections there as well.
Let's put it like this. If I owned a forum for a subject that I didn't know much about, say digital painting; and I held a contest for digital painting and appointed myself a judge of that contest. And then when someone who was clearly knowledgeable about it criticized everything I was doing because I was judging it poorly - I would not ignore that person because they harshly criticized me, ESPECIALLY if they offered their services and I knew they would be a good judge and everyone knew. The LAST thing I would do would be to deny possibly the most qualified person a position because he was hard on me. That's childish stupid insecure leadership.
I'm not saying that you should be ignored. I'm just saying that it's probably going to be given consideration when the decision is made. Suggesting that the people that have been holding and judging the contests up to this point are clearly less knowledgeable than you are may or may not be true, but saying it isn't going to help your cause. Again, I'm not telling you whether it's true or untrue, or whether you should say it or not say it. I'm just saying...what you say affects the people you say it to (obvious, I know). This expectation that you can say something harshly critical of people (even if it's true), and expect that it's not going to negatively affect their view of you, and impact their willingness to work with you, is unrealistic. Is that unfair? Maybe, but it's also 'normal', and should be expected.
I told War I wanted to judge a competitive contest well before you came to him, for the record. A couple things: 1. I wasn't referring to your criticism, I was referring to how you talk to people who disagree with you in general. You simply aren't a very respectful person. I see no reason why other troublesome members, like Schnitzel, would have any less probability of becoming a judge. 2. Whether subconsciously or not, you imply that all others are inferior to you for this role. The confidence/arrogance is just one more reason I don't think you'd be a good judge to endorse.
and... while there are like two or three threads where all the veteran forum'ers and forger'ers are arguing, almost nothing else ever gets discussed on this forum site, especially not questions about forge from newer forgers, or people trying to solve problems others are encountering in their maps. this is all that there is to read too, and so others just get put off and wonder why they hell they are even here... There should be more focus on being a community rather than figuring out who is right about everything all the time. (We don't give a **** who is right. we just want to forge and get help from better forgers than ourselves.)
Most people don't join online gaming communities to enter contests. They join because they want to fit in. They enter the contests because the community leadership doesn't give them any other options. Instead of judging those people, why not educate them? Instead of having another contest, maybe you should organize your resources towards the benefit of teaching people how to use the Forge tool.
Contests do a lot of this already. The nature of a lot of high quality maps being driven out is good enough in its own. 1: I don't even know what you're getting at 2: there's a difference between being a good level designer and being a good judge of quality. Coming from the guy who said "you couldn't POSSIBLY fathom why Angst is so good" okay man
I'll judge. Credentials: Never finished a map. Never frequent this sight anymore. Never ranked above plat. Thank you for your consideration.
