    Good Morning peeps,

Wanted to create this thread to see what everyone's thoughts on what you would like to see or do in the coming months in the Forge community. Do we want another forge contest, if so what kind? Do we want to have some sort 4v4 Throwdown tourney? Do we want to have a Forge challenges series? Do we want to start having weekly community game nights? I'm just throwing ideas out there.

If there is something else in mind please comment.

id like to see a 2v2 contest based around a certain template, wheter its a specific style of design or an art style or whatever. Like ghost in the shells contest but not stupidly specific.

or if we get one flag to work, one flag contest

Hell no. The salt that will be generated from you judging the judges judging will be enough to keep the site fueled until Halo 6 releases. They'd be crazy to pass on that opportunity.

I know we joke and stuff but Im like half serious here, I would judge a contest more efficiently and fairly than anything we've seen thus far and I'm willing to bet people would be happier with the results of said contest than anything else that's happened on this site in the last 3 years. And I would do it quicker than some ridiculous 3 month timeline

Seriously every contest since H2A has been a joke. WHO REMEMBERS WELKIN??!?

The mym contest where olympus didn't even place top 10 courtesy of Duck and Fated

The 2v2 contest that I don't even want to bring up because holy **** wow every map that I said would play like **** on matchmaking, PLAYED LIKE **** IN MATCHMAKING WOW WOAH SO CRAZY WHO WOULD'VE GUESSED

The griffball contest that just happened, and I hate to bring up my own map but Gurf didn't even get top 16 and yet we have some kit bash 343runner horseshit win lmao

And I haven't paid attention to the exterm contest but it seemed like it was ran a bit better, just a bit slow

Not a great track record. Maybe someone who actually can see if a map is broken or not should judge these things wow idk

I know. I'm serious too. In case I haven't made my stance clear lately, I'm pretty much always in favor of doing whatever will help the site grow. Though I would never have anything to do with purposely sabotaging a content, I like the discussion that's generated from the traditional judging methods. The differences of opinion and the results they sometimes produce are a big part of what makes contests interesting to me. I've never seen having the best maps be winners as the ultimate goal (because what is 'best' varies so enormously from person to person depending upon their preferences and priotities).

About 99% of maps made in Halo (including the vast majority of developer maps) are broken. There are probably on average less than 2 maps submitted to each contest that aren't 'broken' at a high levels of play. It's not a reasonable standard.

Yeah, I get that. I don't view contests as competitions, like most do. I look at them primarily as traffic generators for the site.

1: whatever the least broken maps are, should be the winners

2: regardless if that were true that every contest has that few maps that aren't broken, it shouldn't change the principle of choosing the best maps. Forgers just need to step it up.

Since I was a judge of two said contests, both of them were eye openers to me. The amount of time and effort between reviewing, judging, playing, etc. is crazy. Also, the more judges at hand (helps spread the less biased opinions) means working together to get together and actually judge was tough. Everyone has things that pop IRL and that happens. To be honest judging a contest is sort of challenge in itself.

I think every member who complains about how a contest is run, should run a contest. I personally have steered cleared from entering in contest in the past, well because of fearing of not getting chosen because someone may have some odd opinion about me, which valued my entry invalid. So when I was approached about running a Grifball contest, my main thing was being open and transparent about everything should eliminate a lot of that speculation. Which it did. Now that we stream pretty much all of the sessions, it's there for people to watch in real time.

Lastly the Exterm contest did run a lot slower that I personally wanted, but playing these maps at their full extent took a lot of time to test/judge. And those are the ones that made it Round 1, the one's that didn't even make it to round 1 where looked at many hours before the judging started. So there was definitely a lot of time and effort put into the contest itself.

I guess going forward, those who are willing to judge definitely need to set some sort set schedule. That's my mistake that I think we could have improved on.

As for which maps were chosen in both contests (Grif/Exterm), I thought I chose solid maps but the weighting of the other judges definitely offset my selections.

So long as it's a 2v2 or 1v1 contest I say let the man judge. I mean, it's not like there's much on the table right now anyways let's be honest.

Don't get me wrong, I think Multi is a good judge of map quality, and would be good as part of a judging panel. I don't think anyone should ever be the sole judge of a contest though, unless they're personally organizing it and providing prizing. I think being 'part of' a judging process (as opposed to being the only judge of a contest) would cause more frustration than not being involved in the judging at all.

In contest judging, your personal opinion is always outnumbered. You have to accept that you took part in determining the results even when you totally disagree with them, and typically you'll need to refrain from bad mouthing the results (again, even when you totally disagree with them). Talking badly about other judges opinions only makes you look bad, and ends up being bad for the contest overall.

Judging a contest isn't rocket science. It is, however, made difficult by the fact that the results are released as a group consensus. I don't really like the idea of publicizing the rankings of individual judges either. It would put them in a position where they may be tempted to rank maps based upon things other than their opinion of how a map plays.

I imagine it would be something along the lines of what Goat and Multi mentioned...building within a set criteria. Could also be something like an aesthetic contest where everyone uses the same base map.

It's probably not great timing for it, but I'd like to see a return of 'Best of Forge'.

I think contest wise, a 4v4 is a must. There's already plenty of would be heavy contenders on the table, plus whatever drive is leftover to beat the obvious choices. But what to base it off of? Do you make the criteria support at least 3 game modes or just Slayer?

Whether or not it's the right timing for it is another question in and of itself. As of now theres no release date for h6, so what if we do have it and then a whole year passes by of radio silence just waiting for h6 to drop?
