pretty sure that sounds like trials of Osiris. We would like this to be somewhat unique and when I say objectives I meant like ctf, oddball, assault, ricochet. stuff like that where its the focus of the game.

But then it deviates too much of what it is. The point is to get those 4 kills. A secondary goal I think will keep that especially if it's near the end of a round. If a team is playing too defensive than they will pay for it by not capping the point.

I've never actually played Extermination. It might be helpful to this thread if you provide links to the maps you're talking about. Or maybe even some gameplay videos?

@Alex Parsons , Well the idea is that people who are familiar with the mode/maps have a chance to provide feedback on those things.

This video might help shed some light on what Extermination is and will also highlight the general appearance of some of the launch maps.

This is also a pretty meaty interview with another Halo player where I discuss some of the key aspects of the mode, if you have time for that kinda thing.

If you wanna check out some maps for the mode, here are some suggestions:

    Launch Maps:

Remains by Duke of Mearl & Partarar
    Harbinger by Max Extra
Face to Face by Bodey Bode
    Timeframe (Dreamscape) by Ascend Hyperion

**All of these also appear in matchmaking

    Matchmaking Maps:

    Atlas by The Grim Dealer
    Firewall by MrDeliciousMan
Alpha Niner by Cheap Box v2

    Contest Winners:

    Augury by AceOfSpades
    Abyss by SgtSlapHead

    • How do the contest winners compare to the launch maps for the mode? Do you feel that one group performs better than the other? What puts certain maps above others in your book?

I enjoyed most of the launch maps for the mode. I unfortunately haven't really had much opportunity to play the recent contest winning maps that are new. Hard to say what has put certain maps above others as they've all managed to follow the needed design concept to make Extermination play as well as it does.

    • Does Extermination function well with players you cannot communicate with? After a brief stint in matchmaking, many of you got to experience Exterm solo-queue or partial-queue. Do you feel that the mode performs well either way is is full communication an absolute must?

Communication between a team will always grant an advantage, but just as in all modes it's not a prerequisite in order to play it; nevertheless, this mode as well as Doubles, HCS, and maybe Breakout are probably the modes that are influenced the most by team communication.

    • Does Extermination have replay value? Why or why not?

Sure; it's basically a better design concept for Halo on what the Breakout mode originally tried to provide.

    • We are looking to implement a new wave of Experimental Extermination Variants. These new modes would be live firing ranges for a variety of concepts for new Exterm types to enjoy. What changes would you like to see implemented into Extermination? What objectives do you think would compliment the fast-paced, elimination based mode?

Personally, I think an objective beyond the simple slaying of the opposing team via exterminating them takes away from what makes Extermination, Extermination. While I think an Extermination map could potentially make an interesting option or bring inspiration for a Ricochet mode I don't think there should be any cross-over via the settings of Extermination. Basically, for the most part leave Extermination as is -- as a slayer-based objective game-type.

    • When building a map for Extermination, what is your biggest hurdle?

Couldn't say as I haven't built one, but I'd imagine it's got to be the sizing of the map and building the so-called "bases" for the team spawn locations.

    • What is your biggest like and dislike of the mode?

LIKE: It's a simple concept of Slayer that intensifies the need to coordinate, be precise (execute), and survive.

DISLIKE: Not too much to dislike, but I think Multi hit on some solid constructive points regarding the mode's biggest issues. Nevertheless, it may be worth noting that I'm not one who enjoys a ton of repetition, so the limited amount of maps I played within the mode's first matchmaking experience may have been a dislike for me.

I asked for links to maps or videos of gameplay. Not more hype. Those two videos you posted didn't tell me anything I didn’t already know. I'm already aware of what Extermination is. At the risk of stating the obvious, I can read.

Do you want informed feedback or not? I can't do that unless I see some gameplay.

@Alex Parsons To quote you directly, "I've never actually played Extermination."

I just provided you with the info to get familiar with the mode. This thread is not a general info thread. Like I mentioned above it is for feedback from people who are already acquainted with the mode through actual interaction with it.

If you want gameplay, all you would have to do is type in Halo 5 Extermination Gamemode in the Youtube search bar. You'll get plenty of results.

That being said, just watching other people play is not going to allow you to give "informed feedback". You would actually have to play it to do that. I suggest you actually play the mode thoroughly before attempting to contribute feedback. Surely you understand how that works.

I love Extermination! I would say how it could be improved but I think Multi summed it up well. The fast spawn time and lack of static spawning makes it incredibly difficult to create a particularly interesting map. With only the current settings, an Extermination map designer is forced to simplify their designs to the point where the map itself offers little depth and the variety of play styles comes more so through the pickups used.

It's why I made Abyss so power weapon heavy, the layout is completely designed around and reliant on how people engage with the weapon set. I wasn't satisfied with how bare bones the actual layout was but any attempts to add to the map made it inappropriate for Extermination.

I think there is a place for this simplicity to be sure, but there should also be a game mode variant involving longer spawn times. In the same way that some CTF maps are better suited for 5 Flag as opposed to 3 Flag, there could be a broader range of Extermination map styles if more than one variant was being used.

Go to halowaypoint and search maps by keyword "extermination" and every single map he mentioned will appear. It's not like these are unreleased to the public. Idk if you're lazy, stupid, or just trolling.

Informed feedback from someone who openly admits to never playing the gametype? That makes no logical sense.

You want to watch some gameplay? Go on YouTube and search for "halo 5 extermination" and you'll find tons on gameplay videos. Again... lazy, stupid, or trolling.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you're completely unqualified to answer any of the questions.

I think a VIP variant would be fun. Once the VIP dies the round is over. While it might seem counter intuitive to have a player with a constant way marker, this could also be used to bait teams to make bad pushes or forgo the power ups at the start. The vip could have more shields and slower regen time or lots of shields and no regen at all to keep the pace quick.

oooh... I just had a thought related to what you just wrote.

If you just do a VIP it ceases to be Exterm, IMO, because the whole team doesn't need to be dead simultaneously, but just the VIP. Right? Well, anyway, what about this?

VIP randomly changes between any living players on a team (every 20-30 sec?), and thus keeping in step with Exterm, if more players are alive, the better the chance that the team will be able to keep the VIP alive. If VIP Stays alive long enough for the VIP to move to someone else who is spawning in, it makes it much harder for opposing team to kill VIP.

    Could be fun!

That way you could increase spawn times without it being too much of a pain to die
    --- Double Post Merged, Jun 6, 2017 ---
Increasing the spawn time you could also add oddball into the mix. Do you go for the last alive, or milk some ball time? First to 25 seconds or 4 dead wins the round

Excuse me, please. I was not trying to deliberately hurt anyone's feelings, if that is what happened here.

If you want to call me names go ahead. You don't know anything about me. But I think you should ask yourself if you're really doing the community any favors by doing that.

When I first posted in this thread it was because I wanted to participate in the discussion. (I now understand that this thread is not meant for my participation.) You need to understand that not all the feedback you hear about Extermination is going to come from people who already love the game mode. Don't get into the habit of saying people who haven’t played the games you like are stupid. That it a terrible and utterly ignoble thing to say.

Do you think that kind of behavior is going to make me want to rush out and play as many games of Extermination as I can? What is the logic behind that?

If anything, it makes me think this thead is a waste of time. And if the feedback thread is a waste of time then what does that make Extermination.

I would just like to point out that Bodey does not speak for ATN, the group that created the game mode and that is interested in the feedback.

While I would love to know your thoughts on the game type, please keep in mind that more experience creates better feedback and while your views and opinions from just looking at game play will be heard and considered we will probably not rely on them as heavily as those views and opinions coming from people who have more experience with the gametype. But please share with us your opinions when ever you feel comfortable with that we are very interested in what all people have to say.

To be clear, like Max said. I am not part of the ATN group who is looking for feedback. But If I was, I wouldn't want it until you've actually played the gametype anyway.

My feelings aren't hurt at all.

When you first posted in this thread you stated "I've never actually played Extermination. It might be helpful to this thread if you provide links to the maps you're talking about. Or maybe even some gameplay videos?"

Links to the maps are completely unnecessary to answer the OP's questions. Nor should they be necessary to be helpful to answer the questions. If you don't know the maps being referenced by the question, then you shouldn't be answering the question because you haven't played it enough to make an informed opinion.

And gameplay videos? lemme give you an analogy: I've heard of a game called golf, I've watched a bit of it on tv. Would I be qualified to answer questions about a golf course because I watched someone else play on it? NO!

Your initial post read like someone who's never heard of the gametype or the maps, so Hyperion posted some videos about what the gametype is about, and the names of the maps he was referencing so you can look it up for yourself.

Then you replied "I asked for links to maps or videos of gameplay. Not more hype. Those two videos you posted didn't tell me anything I didn’t already know. I'm already aware of what Extermination is. At the risk of stating the obvious, I can read.

Do you want informed feedback or not? I can't do that unless I see some gameplay."

Quite the aggressive reply to someone who was trying to be helpful... It's at this point I have to assume that you're trolling, or lacking basic reasoning skills.

Now, I'll address your most recent reply.

"When I first posted in this thread it was because I wanted to participate in the discussion. (I now understand that this thread is not meant for my participation.) You need to understand that not all the feedback you hear about Extermination is going to come from people who already love the game mode. Don't get into the habit of saying people who haven’t played the games you like are stupid. That it a terrible and utterly ignoble thing to say."

I absolutely understand that not all the feedback is going to be from people who love the gamemode. But those people who do and don't love it have one important thing in common. They've played the gamemode!

"Do you think that kind of behavior is going to make me want to rush out and play as many games of Extermination as I can? What is the logic behind that?"

If you want your opinion to matter, then yeah. I'm not affiliated with ATN like Max said. But, I did make a map for the gametype and if someone tried to give me feedback for my map without ever playing the gametype/map. Their opinion is literally worthless to me.

"If anything, it makes me think this thead is a waste of time. And if the feedback thread is a waste of time then what does that make Extermination."

I don't know whether to call this a logical fallacy, or a false analogy. Either way, it's a poor argument.

I'll answer the questions for you as if I was someone who had heard of the gamemode but hasn't played it:

How do the contest winners compare to the launch maps for the mode? Do you feel that one group performs better than the other? What puts certain maps above others in your book?

I don't know, I've never played on either set of maps.

Does Extermination function well with players you cannot communicate with? After a brief stint in matchmaking, many of you got to experience Exterm solo-queue or partial-queue. Do you feel that the mode performs well either way is is full communication an absolute must?

Hmm, I really can't say. I've never played Extermination so I don't know either way.

Does Extermination have replay value? Why or why not?

Good question, I'd have to play it a few times first to know for myself.

    I could go on...
