Just because someone doesn’t have the impulse to be competitive, that doesn't mean they only play games casually. I don't even believe in fun, but that never stopped me from forging.
I'm not saying I think there’s no such thing as fun. I don't believe in violence either, but that never stopped me from playing Halo. I think that there is enough objective evidence across human history to prove that fun is not always the answer. I choose not to believe in fun. But I also understand that to some people, fun is the only reason they have to play Halo. If having fun is what it takes for someone else to enjoy my favorite game as much as I do, then who am I to tell that person they have no right to their opinions?
I still like Halo, even though the game isn't about me. The things I like about the game aren't the only parts of the game that matter.
So that we can play a terrible game on the maps we make? I don't know about you guys, but most people forge to play their maps and create experiences in gameplay. If the game sucks, then playing the game sucks. Maps can't fix a broken game, and only temporarily distracts us from its problems. --- Double Post Merged, Apr 27, 2017 --- Ahahahaha, I can't even begin to guess what kind of drugs this dude has in his body at any one time.
Yeah this is anecdotal at best. Halo 3 was during the pinnacle of it's popularity, the xbox 360 was kicking ass, & there was less competition in arena games. Too many games coexist and demand peoples attention nowadays for a game that is on its 6th major title release. And when the story sucks, people jump ship even faster. Forge is hardly a unit seller in the grand scheme, no matter how good it is built. Its a showboat feature set that lets them show off cool stuff that no one but a small percentage of hardcore players actually messes with. Whatever trickles into MM gets casual attention from the silent masses, but not much else.
I am so glad you said that Regardless it looks like you indirectly agreed with xandrith. A healthy Halo game with a shitty forge is better for the forge community than a broken Halo game with a great forge. Aka what we have now
That's true, if you want to talk population, Minecraft beat the pants off Halo 3 and all the other games on 360. Is Minecraft more fun to play than Halo 3? I wouldn't know. Plus you can't beat the marketing for Halo 3. And look at the bang up job they did trying to sell Halo 5. Trying to make Master Chief look like some kind of rogue agent was just a dumb idea. As if they were somehow going to surprise us at the end when it turns out the Master Chief is really the good guy. And Black Master Chief? Why he's not such a mean ol' guy after all.
I should've said "Forge community", not just community. I would never argue that Forge has played a large role in the success of any Halo, but the quality of any given Halo game is the largest contributor to its respective Forge/customs community, which is what I was referring to when stating that "the proof is in the pudding".
You are not the one who gets to decide what quality means for Halo. You only get to define what quality means to you. Matchmaking is very important, but it isn't everything. It's easy to talk about the impact Forge had on Halo 3, now that everyone can plainly see what Halo 3 Forge is capable of. But I know for a fact that no one has yet seen the full extent of what Halo 5 Forge is capable of. Until you know everything that Forge can do right now, what right do you have to tell others what Forge will never do?
