What an incredible project, we loved the use of your spider mech because unlike other maps, it was actually a functional part of the geometry of your space. Players could walk under and on top of it to move around the map. I love the angle of your thumbnail image. I remember standing there in forge and saying what a great picture it would be
Amazing map! Had the final winners been decided by people who actually play the game it might have even won. The community judges did a great job but after that I have no idea what happened. This is easily some of the best if not the best game play from the contest.
Ya integrating the spider tank into my map was a main priority and I always try to create an area of interest with a good compositional layout featuring the main ascetic.
Ya I only heard good reviews from the judging so I'm happy about that but I'm curious as where it fell short.
We think it's because your map didn't depict the assigned scene as well as the others. Even if it did play better than them
There was way too much emphasis on likeness to description and I think it really limited the contest. Should have just been make a GitS themed map. Why they wanted such a specific map confuses me. The map described didn't even seem that fun to me. They basically just wanted a donut with a tree in the middle and a circular walkway enclosing the area. Not very interesting at all. You certainly got a better grasp on level design than they do.
To be fair, Shellshock was the judges' second favorite. Don't know why it wasn't even included in the honorable mentions in the waypoint announcement.
I appreciate it and I'm not too fussed about it although it would have been cool to come 2nd. I really wanted to walk down the street and impress the ladies with my needler. Oh well. It just bothers me how much of a backseat game play seems to take these days. Anyway good job on getting through that many maps so quickly guys and once again great map! Let's keep putting 343 to shame with our awesome designs!
