Yeah, I didn't think you were implying that. I just felt it needed to be said after saying that I don't think contests are important.
https://www.twitch.tv/halo I'd much rather watch this than read y'all's bickering, and I stopped liking Halo 5 back in August.
Halo should still be classic settings They need come up with clever designs that think outside of the box to help deliver a great experience, rather than keep making the same 2b2t map with super powers to try and make the gameplay interesting. Kind of like what multi said a few pages back about concepts for a map. I have a lot of cool ideas but I suck at putting them to use. If I wasn't about to go to sleep I'd post a few. Tomorrow
Our untrained eyes could never understand the true depth of Storm Peaks. It takes years of forging redundant box maps to get to that. YEARS.
I think you severely over estimate your own ability to predict how a map will play at a high level. You, and anyone else, is not above the scientific method. Hypothesis are great, and with much repeated expirmentation a scientist can get extremely good at making good hypothesis, but a hypothesis is still a hypothesis. Expirmentation (play testing) Is core to the scientific method. In the future if we expect to have a serious 2v2 contest we need to outsource the player base to champ level players and have them playtest the top 10 maps to determine the best of the best. I don't believe all maps need or should play slayer well at the highest of high levels. Gametypes are a thing and the best slayer map is rarely going to be the best objective map. So your judgement about the pit is rather silly, considering MLG chooses what modes to run on what maps depending on there strengths and weakness. If we design all maps to always reach 50 kills In slayer at the high level, we would forsake an entire design potential that may play flag or hill amazingly well, but slayer not so much. You do realize that champ level players are 5% or less of the player base? There are def maps that are blast for casual slayer matches that wouldn't work well for tournament gameplay. Let's not forsake those maps for 5% of the player base.
100% agree on the whole gametype principle. I'm just using slayer as a baseline because that's what the contest was for. So when Hazard games end 12 minutes in 11-8, there's a problem. That being said if we relied only on testing like you say then the judges picks for the contest would've been correct, and they weren't. Of course I'm not saying to abandon testing but simple analysis would've prevented a lot of mistakes. People need to be able to do both.
Can I just say that I don't want to play on a map that pro players think is awesome. I sure as hell wouldn't have gotten any of my favorite maps if that were the case. Instead it would likely have been more of the boring stuff 343 is pushing. On the positive side, I'm pretty sure 343 has mastered the Sky box. It's clearly the only place creativity has been allowed to flourish. I don't like the atmosphere in this thread. I come here for fun not bullshit. I don't mind a bit of bickering but it's about time everyone shuts the **** up already. If it must continue let's at least move it out of WAYWO.
