****, i'm still 2 pages behind reading this novel but I just got the best idea for a contest. Prize is TBD I'm going to make a blockout and invite whoever wants to test their abilities to run around on the map before any playtests for 5 minutes. Then they will have to describe how the map will play based on their observations. A non-biased group will play the map 3 times and whoever predicted the gameplay the most accurately wins.
I don't take most of the stuff in here very seriously, and I assume this is hyperbole, but man...I really hate this mindset, and I can never agree with disrespecting anyone because of their opinions on map design. There's nothing wrong with that style of map. It's not inferior to whatever design style you may prefer. These kind of comments might legitimately influence some of the lesser experienced forgers opinions. Arguing vehemently against ANY style of map simply because it's been done a lot is counter productive. --- Double Post Merged, Mar 24, 2017 --- You'd have to know who would be playing the map, and what their tendencies are. 3 games isn't enough for people to really learn how to exploit design flaws, so how the map plays will depend mostly upon their playstyles.
I appreciate it but its worth mentioning that this was by me and Karby. That's OK though because Karby never gets credit. Aside from changing the textures the scale of the map never changed. At least I don't think it did since we posted the first version. Might have felt smaller when it was in a big dark room or did you play some weird blockout before we posted it?
Yeah, but the point I was making is that not everyone does know that. Regardless, talking **** and then excusing it by saying you don't mean it is dumb.
Again thanks but Karby NEVER gets credit. It's not like Karby helped me with Chasm and Heads Up, these maps simply don't exist without him. They were pretty much solid 50:50 co-forges.
Thanks. I agree that we could make the layout more intuitive and easy to pick up with a really solid art pass and a few improvements but with every update ever breaking lighting and frame rate, I gave up finishing maps for Halo 5.
I'm not even talking **** on the style of map so much as the perception around it but alright. Fair enough.
That one may have been my fault. It was one-way at some point but I guess I... erm... may have in fact... made a bad design decision... I think I'll just blame Karby. He'll probably get credit for the maps flaws. --- Double Post Merged, Mar 24, 2017 --- Your opinion differs to mine and this is the internet so... I HATE YOU!!!
Good and funny idea, though we would need to know exactly what audience would be playing it and have knowledge of their ability to play before making the judgement and we'd likely all make the same observations with that knowledge. Edit: Woops, chunk beat me to it.
